Deck tech! Experiments in Endor

Star Wars Star Wars LCG SWLCG
Deck tech! Experiments in Endor Hello! Welcome to the second entry of my blog, where I will go over decks I have been brewing. Since this is only my second entry I thought I would start by introducing myself again; my name is Dan, I live in Western Canada, and play a ton of Star Wars LCG. I'm a host on the podcast Ion Control, and I contribute to the community force pack reviews. I also tend to play a lot of Scum and Rebels.

With this post I want to share my experiences experimenting with the first pack of the Endor cycle, I have put quite a bit of time into this deck, since I proxied Shield Generator Assault, the new Han Solo set, a while ago.

The first thought I had was that this new Han set pairs wonderfully with Commando Operations. It's another Endor objective so it synergizes with Han's objective, and General Crix Madine is one of my favourite Characters in the game, he can be such a pain to deal with.

After that I figured I have to add May the Force Be With You, that set goes so well with Crix Madine. It gives you another copy of Seeds of Decay, bringing the total up to 4! It also helps rebels so much with force struggles, edge battles, and it's just generally an all-around amazing set.

That left me with a core of a deck:
2x Shield Generator Assault (Solo's Command 185-1)
2x Commando Operations (Lure of the Dark Side 102-1)
2x May the Force Be With You (Join Us or Die 112-1)

With 4 Seeds of Decay I couldn't resist putting in Commando Raid. Being able to play them like actions is phenomenal, plus the set is packed full of ways to get your edge cards back.

At this point I realized I had some pretty awesome fate card synergy going on, and every set had at least one fate, so I decided to add one copy of Forward Reconnaissance, mostly since it gives the deck a Twist of Fate, which is always great, and another resource. Plus Jan Ors is a great unit and the chuds give you some card draw.

This brought the deck to:
2x Shield Generator Assault (Solo's Command 185-1)
2x Commando Operations (Lure of the Dark Side 102-1)
2x May the Force Be With You (Join Us or Die 112-1)
1x Commando Raid (Between the Shadows 132-1)
1x Forward Reconnaissance (Heroes and Legends 98-1)

For the last slots my top 2 considerations were Ties of Blood and The Survivors. Ties of Blood is another Endor objective to add to the bit of Endor synergy, and Protection, which is an amazing fate card, and another great one to use with Commando Raid. I ultimately decided on The Survivors. I did this because with all the big units in the deck it's nice to have a way to Protect, using Rahn, and clear damage with Force Rejuvenation. The objective is wasted on a lot of units, but it does have Rahn and Yoda it can trigger off of. The set also has a resource, and Protection, which like I said works well with this deck.

This brought the final deck to be:
Jedi Affiliation
2x Shield Generator Assault (Solo's Command 185-1)
2x Commando Operations (Lure of the Dark Side 102-1)
2x May the Force Be With You (Join Us or Die 112-1)
2x The Survivors (Draw Their Fire 146-1)
1x Commando Raid (Between the Shadows 132-1)
1x Forward Reconnaissance (Heroes and Legends 98-1)

So what does this deck do, and why would I run it?

So the real question I always find myself asking is why I wouldn’t just run mono Jedi, other than just a desire to try new things... And while the goal when building this list was to just try new things it actually is proving to be quite strong and it can do some cool things.

-It has a low curve, with tons of good first turn plays. It's also full of blast damage, 22 of the units have blast, they all only have 1 blast icon, but there are so many of them you can play it quite swarmy. Plus there are several ways to get some double strikes in with this deck.

-The deck runs some solid mains, with good stats, and the ever important tactics icon. Crix, Han, and Yoda can do a lot to help control the board. Rahn’s protect is amazing, and even Jan Ors can make some pretty awesome plays with so many cheap units you wouldn't mind bouncing to get another strike in.

-It has ways around Tarkin Doctrine. That objective has proven to be such a pain against, so the fact that Han Solo, and the fate card Secret Objective can help you attack the objective you want to kill first, which they will probably be trying to protect with the Tarkin Doctrine's ability.

-Crix + May the Force Be With You. If you haven't played these 2 sets together you really should. It's really insanely good. First off you get 4 seeds of decay, what is amazing, since often the best blockers are also units that are good on the force. But the best thing is if you have May the Force be With You out, you can play Crix, pay for a unit using resources, then commit him to the force to clear the focus and take the force. He can be such amazing value, and even if you don't get to do that combo, he is still amazing.

-So many fate cards and tricks. There are 11 fate cards in this deck, and 6 different ones. Plus there are some awesome tricks with them, adaptive strategy can get them to trigger twice, you can get them back with Judder Page's set, and you can even play them like events with that set.

-It just all around seems to run really smoothly, the amount of resources with a small curve work great, and the high edge count with so many fate cards can really help you dominate the edge battles.

Thanks for reading and,

I built almost the same deck last week but instead of Survivors, I used Planning the rescue. The deck was so much fun to play. Have you considered that pod? If so, what didn't you like about it.

Fun deck, I'll be giving it a try soon!

I built almost the same deck last week but instead of Survivors, I used Planning the rescue. The deck was so much fun to play. Have you considered that pod? If so, what didn't you like about it.

I did actually, and while I do really like the set,it lacks a fate card and it doesn't have a lot of synergy with the rest of the pods, I decided the survivors would be a better pick. It follows the fate card theme, plus protect character and force rejuvenation are just too good to pass up.

Though I may have to try it some more, that Planning the Rescue is one of the most fun sets that at the same time is also really good.

Thanks for this post. I used the article as the base of a brand new deck for a tournament I'm going to today. It's my first one ever. I'll let you know how it turns out.

So a quick follow up. There were only 4 players at the Store Championship, and so we each got to play against each other. I lost every match up, but it was a good time. I wasn't used to the time limit (the store set it at 50 minutes) and so I made tons of mistakes. Here's my deck.

Objective: (10)

1x Fleeing the Empire (Core 10-1)
1x Watchers in the Wasteland (Balance of the Force 91-1)
1x Forward Reconnaissance (Heroes and Legends 98-1)
2x Commando Operations (Lure of the Dark Side 102-1)
2x May the Force Be With You (Join Us or Die 112-1)
1x Commando Raid (Between the Shadows 132-1)
2x Shield Generator Assault (Solo’s Command 185-1)

I threw in Core Leia for a Twist, and combo potential with Jan Ors. And I'm biased towards Watchers in the Wasteland because I like Obi Wan as a character and the Wolf guys are cool.
