Mindfulness has become a buzzword now. All around advise to “be more mindful”, to learn how to “be here and now”, many books dedicated to the development of these qualities were written recently. The theme of mindfulness has never been as popular as it is now. What is happening? Why mindfulness helps the common man and how it affects your life? While dealing with people you constantly have to deal with the fact that, unfortunately, many of them do not quite clearly imagine what mindfulness is. It is understandable because the true meaning of this word is revealed only when mindfulness is manifested in man. This paper seeks to give a clear definition of mindfulness and why it should be developed in business plan essay.

Definition of Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a concept in modern psychology defined as the continuous monitoring of the current feelings, a condition on which the subject is focused on the experience of the present moment trying not to be distracted by the events of the past or thinking about the future. It is the ability of consciousness to the introspection of its own activity. This definition implies that subjective experiences can be perceived by the subject directly without conceptualization and accepted as such. Thus, mindfulness is included in the most general concept of attentiveness. Awareness is a rather relative concept. Animals can be partially aware, subliminally aware, or not even aware of the event. Awareness can be concentrated on internal states such as internal (intuition) or sensual perception of external events. Also, the word “awareness” is used to distinguish the degree of sensory perception. When someone once felt awareness, he or she enlightens the mindfulness. The nervous system, which regulates the level of attention, serves to its attenuation in highly developed animals as the central and peripheral nervous systems and provides more information than the area of the brain responsible for cognitive abilities can handle.

Mindfulness in Neurology

Basic mindfulness of the human internal and external world is happening in the brain stem. Bjorn Merker, an independent Swedish neurologist, argues that the latter supports elementary forms of consciousness in children with hydrocephalus. The higher forms of mindfulness, including consciousness, require the work of the cerebral cortex. The primary consciousness (also known as basic awareness) is an opportunity to interpret the sensations, which come from the environment, following the immediate goals and feelings to control the brain stem responsible for behavior. It is inherent in human nature as well as most vertebrates. Such forms of primary consciousness consist of the ability to produce emotions and be aware of the presence of someone else in the environment. They do not include the capacity to talk about their experience. In the same way, people are aware of the feelings they cannot name or describe. Below the brain stem is located the intersections area that regulates the movement of the eyeballs and the decision-making process.

Philosophy of Mindfulness

Descartes was one of the first who began to develop the consciousness scientific study theme. He formulated the thesis “I think, therefore I exist.” By thinking, he understood all that was done deliberately. For him, mindfulness is a measure of the differences between mental processes from not mental, physiological, physical. At the same time, Descartes indicated the path of mental processes empirical study, the way of direct self-observation (introspection) that the founder of experimental psychology Wilhelm Wundt implemented later.

The Concept of Mindfulness

Mindfulness is the quality not only of our consciousness. It is the quality of existence as such. Man, unlike an animal, has consciousness as the human instincts are manifested significantly less than animal ones. However, human pays a certain price for the possession of the consciousness: the human cub is the most defenseless in this world and needs time to learn what other types, due to instincts, are able from birth. Instincts are genetic programs built into a living creature by nature. Thanks to them, this being is well-oriented in the world, knows what and how needs to be done. The human instincts are less developed, and their function takes over his or her trained mind (consciousness) with its social or individual programs. With the help of these programs, a person is guided in the daily interaction with the outside world. Mindfulness in relation to consciousness takes the same position as the consciousness (mind) in connection with the instincts. In this case, individual mindfulness programs are no longer needed for interaction with the surrounding world. Man ceases to be those who are governed and goes into the quality of those who govern.

It is necessary to understand the following clearly. Consciousness is not the mind. Mindfulness is not a mental awareness. It is the direct knowledge of oneself (as a subject of knowledge) not subjected to psychological interpretations and distortions. The growth of mindfulness is a gradual, clear, and precise understanding (awareness) of your true nature as well as all the phenomena and processes taking place in one’s essence. It is important to remember that mindfulness does not mean the mind. Mindfulness and the mind are two completely different things. If manifested, mindfulness exists by itself, independent of the mind. It does not require any effort to maintain it: it just exists; it is present all the time regardless of the current mental activity. The great mindfulness allows us to be “here and now”, it enables us to maximize the use of our capabilities, clearly and concisely think, and make the right decisions to control our emotions clearly and carefully act. However, the growth of mindfulness is impossible without practice. The more competent and effective practice will be built, the most likely growth of mindfulness will be.

Mindfulness and Its Importance

In his book, Dr. Siegel gives a very interesting definition of the mindfulness. Mindfulness developed through thousands of years of cultural evolution as an antidote to the natural habits of our hearts and minds that make life much more difficult than it needs to be. It is a way to interact with the reality in which we observe our mental and physical activity indifferently. We just keep our thoughts, feelings, sensations, and actions in daily life not appreciating them and dividing by right and wrong. Thus, we see the whole picture. Mindfulness is a great state of the concept of you and your place in this world. There are many benefits of this state such as joy, enjoyment, pleasure. We are born to live and develop. Moreover, life itself has to be only pleasure and joy.

Many people notice that when they begin to meditate, they become more aware of the world around them, and that it enormously enriches their enjoyment of life. Grass, trees, constantly changing the sky, even the urban landscape, woven of buildings, engineering structures, and artificial light — everything starts to fill with new clarity, brightness, and beauty. The world we live in is very beautiful. However, unfortunately, many people are too busy and distracted to pay attention to it. Everybody should learn to look at the world and find pleasure in it because it is one of the greatest services we can provide for ourselves. Meditation can help you in this. Nevertheless, we also have to use mindfulness in our daily routine. We need to learn to look at this world, smell, listen, and feel it. Often, our head is filled with mental chatter. We always make plans for the future, regret the past, worry about what others think, imagine what is about to happen creating a fantasy, make assumptions about other people and their motives, etc. This constant stream of thought leaves us with little time for mental equanimity and enjoyment of the world around us. However, in fact, most of our thoughts are of mental weather: they come and go away depending on the conditions in the past. We should not take them so seriously or put power in them. Instead, we should develop our mindfulness and improve our mental weather.

To sum up, it is worth mentioning that mindfulness is not just a buzzword. It is state of mind and certain condition of mental health. People create problems for themselves every day, think about worthless and useless things, and build plans for ten years ahead. At the same time, they cannot just start to live and think about what is happening at the moment. The main goal is to turn the mind awareness in a truly effective tool and apply it to itself at its center. Therefore, with the rise of mindfulness, you will be able to watch on things from the different angles and have more clear understanding of how the things work.
