Common Mistakes Students Make in Linking Words Usage

Linking words are used to show the relationship between two different ideas or sentences. The nature of this relationship between different ideas can vary according to the context of your writing. You can use linking words to show the similarities between two or online essay writing more concepts. In the same way, linking words are also used to show differences in two or more things.


But one thing to remember here, you must be very conscious about the use of a linking word. Wrong selection or use of a linking word can change the entire meaning of the content. Even it can be misleading in some cases.

The followings are some wrong uses of linking words on behalf of the students:


1- Also

This is a very common linking word in academic writing. This word is used to add ideas or information to already presented ideas. Most of the students make mistakes in the placement of this linking word. This word can be used at the start of a sentence. You can use it in the center of an essay writer sentence but it must be placed between the subject and the verb. Some students placed it at the end of a sentence which is wrong and it can spoil the sentence fragment.


Example:

I want to go to university. I also want to go for a picnic. What should I do? (Right use of a linking word)

I want to go to university. I want to go for a picnic also. What should I do? (This is the wrong use of a linking word as you can not place it at the end of a sentence.


2- Despite

This is another commonly used linking word. This word is used to show a contradiction between two ideas of write my essay. Many students make mistakes in the use of this common linking word. If you want to use it, then you must follow the two rules.
  • The word ‘despite’ must be followed by gerunds and nouns.
  • This word can not be followed by clauses

Example:

Despite failing in the final exam, he was happy with his efforts. (Right use of a Linking word)

Despite he failed in the final exam, he was happy with his efforts. (This is the wrong use of a linking word and many students make this mistake. The linking word ‘despite” must be followed by a gerund in this scenario.)


3- While

The linking word ‘while’ is also used to show a free essay writer contradiction between the two ideas or concepts. You should use this linking word only if you want to show two contradictory events in the same sentence and it used at the start of a sentence.


Example:

While this novel is interesting, this is much too lengthy. (Right use of a linking word)

This novel is interesting, while this is much too lengthy. (this is the wrong use of a linking word as the word ‘while’ should be placed at the start of the sentence and it is used with the first presented idea or concept.
