I appreciate that now is probably not the best time to be thinking of getting back into conquest given the discontinuation and (I assume) imminent closure of this forum but i miss this game.

So i've a few questions before i get back into it.

1) i see there are two fan-made expansion teams - which is awesome regardless of any drama (which it seems there may be?). But are they both playable within octgn?

2) if both are playable then are they compatible - do people enjoy one and not the other for example.

3) How alive is the octgn scene? - is there likely to be a chance to get a pickup game or is it largely preorganised games going on.

4) What are the chances anyone would be willing to reteach me how to play? - I fell out just after nids but before the deathworld cycle. My nids box has never even seen play in RL :(

5) is Tau still pretty noncompetitive or did they finally get some gifts?

3) and 4):

There is a skype group for conquest, I'm not sure how to link it to you or whatever - there's a link on the facebook group I think?  People organise games on it a lot, and I'd say it's more BCL leaning (the two expansions being BCL and apoka)

Similarly, you may find someone to teach you on the slype group. There are also a fair number of non-skype group people playing, I don;t know how they organise matches, and I think they are more liekly to use apoka or be vanilla, though I'm less sure about that.

1 and 2):

both expansions are in octgn, but people tend to prefer to use one or the other, not both in the samge game, although some are ok with it. May be a good diea to make multiple decks and see what happens, one deck for each combination, as it were.

5):

Using BCL cards, to my knowledge tau aren't dominating, but people are having fun with them, albeit a minority I think. Apoka have a new tau warlord, and I quite like some of their tau cards, so you may have a better chance with them.

Don't listen to this guy ^^, Tau are fantastic :)

Actually, he makes good points and I too would recommend joining the Skype group.  If being on a perpetual chat is not your thing then I'd be down to show you around OCTGN and reteach you the game. My time is hit or miss, but hit me up either here or on Skype and we can arrange something.

I've had some limited trials of both sets. Here's a game.
