can you use this for gandalf?
Seemed like you could use this with Gandalf, but I beleive the official ruling was that neutral cards do not belong to a sphere of influence, so no you cannot.

Correct. From page 2 of the FAQ:

Stand and Fight CORE 51
Stand and Fight cannot return neutral allies from the
discard pile, as neutral cards do not belong to "any
sphere."

if I take an ally from another player's discard pile, when this ally dies, does it go in my discard pile or returns to the other player's discard pile?

It would go to the discard pile of its owner. Every card goes to the discard pile belonging to its originating deck.

Hmmm how many discard engine cards has come out till now? It seems like a beautiful 4 spheres ally deck fuel. Hmm what about...

Eowyn
A very good tale
Daeron's runes
Protector of lorien
Word of command should find that ally, discard via eowyn and play it.
Balin tombs to recycle stand.

i dont remember all the cards but there are a number of tactic sphere allies that have to discard a card to attack/defend (elves if i recall). Those cards would allow a tactics/will deck to concievably play any ally that you care to name with a reasonable amount of consistancy.

zigil miner would work really well as he discards two from top of your deck. name a cost and maybe u get that in resources and maybe u dont but either way u can put cards in the discard pile to be played with stand and fight.

also there are a number of eagles that will discard themselves from play if u choose to include them for consideration to this list.
Once I figured out what X costs, I was excited about it. So what if the ally can't be Gandalf or other neutral cards? In a solo spirit/leadership deck, being able to add Daughter of the Nimrodel (core) and be able to play it is great. even if neither this or sneak attack comes up, you can still give Eowyn +1 will power.
I do disagrre with the FAQ. "The chosen ally CAN belong to any sphere of influence." CAN, and not MUST. So, the ally CAN belong or not.

Indeed, that is more errata than faq.

You can even thwart it and say that you choose an ally first (as per rules you resolve effects sentence by sentence) and NOW it CAN belong to any sphere of influence, so like lore ally changes to tactics or something.

Is there any reason I can't modify this cost through Leaf Brooch or Good Meal?

I see no reason it wouldn't work.

If it does work, I feel a new love for this card. I've always held back on allies such as Elfhelm, Norther Trackers and Damrod because of their costs. Drop them by 2 and they become much more attractive.

Maybe I'm mistaken but the cost of Stand and Fight should't be equal to the cost of the ally you put in play? I also saw in other forums people speak of the card as it reduces cost for allies, but I cannot understand why.

They are speaking about this card in conjunction with A Good Meal. Stand and fight won't reduce costs on its own, you are correct.

essentially making it cheaper to play from your discard rather than from your hand.

Thanks for the clarification.
