Born Aloft

Born Aloft
Type: Attachment Sphere: Tactics
Cost: 0
Attach to an ally.
Action: Discard Born Aloft from play to return attached ally to its owner's hand.

"Very well," said Gandalf. "Take us where and as far as you will!" - The Hobbit
Set: CatC Number: 29
Quantity: 3

This card provides a very good use case for Gandalf. Attaching Born aloft to him will allow you to get Gandalf back on hand before he is forced to leave play due the end of the round.
Per the rules page 18, Born Aloft could be used on an attached ally after Step 2 of the Combat Phase (Declare Defender). Seems to me this could prevent an ally who would otherwise be killed by an attack from being discarded. It would also nullify the enemy's attack for the round. You would still need to pay to bring the ally back into play on a future turn, though.
nah, If a defending character leaves play or is removed from combat before damage is assigned, the attack is considered undefended.
Good call, I can't believe I didn't see that. It's on the very same page in the rulebook.

Great free card, works well with any "enters play effect".

(<- New to LOTR) I'm assuming you can play this on an ally even if you don't have a Tactics Hero?

EDIT: Ignore the question, I found the answer to it elsewhere. XD

just in case someone else comes looking with the same question - the answer is no. to play a card (regardless of cost) you must have a hero with the appropriate sphere.
