On to the Elimination Round of the Winter 2023 Online Tournament!

The Elimination Round is single elimination best of 5. During the matches where there is a clear higher seed the higher seed will decide which side to start with, then each player secretly decides which deck of that side they will field in game 1.  In game two players alternate sides and again secretly pick which deck they would like to play.   Players will alternate sides exhausting decks until a winner is determined. Should a 5th game be needed, the player with more game-points earned during the match may decide if they will play LS or DS in the 5th game, and then both players secretly decide which deck to field . If that is a tie, decide randomly.

Feel free to split your games up across multiple nights and report as you go along. This is a chill event, but try not to take longer than 2 weeks to get a match in.

We'll take a break after this is done and I'll organize the next one in the spring/summer!

Ivan and I started our games tonight. Played two so far.

Game 1: my smugglers vs. Ivan's scum. I made some badly timed attacks early on and once the best I could do with the Falcon was drop in a rumor monger, which hurts. And then Ivan had a corrupt official block a Falcon hit. Meanwhile Ivan got to build a nice board with many of the big names and I just couldn't keep up. DS wins, I blew up one objective and spread 4 damage across the others. (12-6)

Game 2: my scum vs. Ivan's ewoks. Ivan didn't have the best luck on card draws, with most of his mains stuck on the bottom of the deck, but Yoda and a bunch of ewoks did plenty of damage. Thankfully, he never got Tribe of the Trees so Snoova could have a few tasty meals. Ivan blew two of my objectives (one actually mine, one mission) and put 3 damage on another one. (9-12)

PeterPan and I played our Game 5 today and finished our Top 8 match.  PeterPan had more game points after the first 4 games and decided to play DS in Game 5.  He opted to play DS in the last game and chose his Scum deck.  I decided to play my Jedi deck for LS.

We had a great 5 game match that included some close games.  Game 5 was no exception.

Game was recorded.  Should display once it's done processing.

Final Result:  yodaman wins 3 games to 2 over PeterPan.

Game 1:  yodaman wins with DS.  LS destroyed 0 objectives with 7 damage across 3 objectives.  (yodaman 12 - PeterPan 3)

Game 2:  yodaman wins with LS..  Dial at 6 (yodaman 24 - PeterPan 9)

Game 3:  PeterPan wins with LS.  Dial at 5. (yodaman 29 - PeterPan 21)

Game 4:  PeterPan wins with DS.  LS destroyed 0 objectives with 5 damage across 3 objectives  (PeterPan 33 - yodaman 31)

Game 5:  yodaman wins with LS.  Dial at 9.

Always fun playing games with PeterPan.  I was fortunate to pull out the win in the end.

One more game for Ivan and me tonight. Ivan played Sith, I played Jedi.

Ivan saw through my twist (it's really hard to twist an attacking Seventh Sister) and killed Yoda and Obi in one fell swoop, but paid heavily to do it - Obi managed to focus down the Emperor before dying, which left Ivan defenseless against a crackback after I got a really nice hand. I already had Luke's landspeeder and a mystic out, and I pulled Tra'saa, a lost master and an Unfinished Business which got me the Crow. That crackback took Ivan to one damage from death, and then a few turns later he undercommitted to an attack and let the other Obi lock down the Emperor again, and the lack of a 2-tactics unit meant he couldn't properly defend that almost-dead objective against two shielded attackers with black blast. Dial stopped at 7.

jimmyc1972 (12) wins DS vs. jollyroger (4)

Jimmy played Sith and came out with Telepathic Connection followed by Gorc with Darth Vader's Lightsaber. I was feeling pretty good coming out with Leia and Twilek Loyalist considering I had a great edge hand. But turn two saw a Sith Warrior, and not too many turns later a Sith Lightsaber was also added to Gorc. As it turns out Gorc with 4 black guns and a shields is pretty tough to defend against. I was able to blow up one objective, but that was it.

Was only able to get one game in tonight, but should hopefully be able to get the rest in soon.

Ivan and I finished our series just now. Sith for me, Rebel fighters for Ivan.

Sith against vehicles is not a good matchup, so I was worried going in, but the Force (i.e. card draw luck) was more on my side than I've seen in a long time. Ivan was drawing decent units, but no tricks to pull with them, and meanwhile I drew just about all the mains my deck has. Only the Inquisitor remained in the deck - everyone else was played or edged. Mara, Pic, Gorc and Vader did a thorough job preventing Ivan from building a board. Even so, Ivan managed to take two objectives and would've been able to put more damage on the third, but he didn't quite have enough to finish it off so he stayed back to defend. But B-wings don't make for good defenders, so I was able to finish off some damaged objectives and bring the dial to 12.

Jimmy and i were able to finish off our games today.

Game 2: jollyroger (12) wins DS with jimmyc1972 (5) blowing up one objective and getting 3 damage across others. Core Vader with his lightsaber, The Inquisitors Lightsaber, and Juyo Training make for a pretty tough unit to go up against.

Game 3: jimmyc1972 (12) win DS with jollyroger (6) blowing up one objective and getting 5 damage across others. Turn one Moruth Doule tends to be hard to work around, add in Dengar and Dr. E and even my units jumping in with Secret Guardian and coming back to life with Return of the Jedi were unable to push through.

Game 4: jimmyc1972 (12) wins LS with jollyroger getting the dial to 7. Great game. Jimmy was able to come out with a steady stream of mains. But turn one Tarkin, turn two Gladiator, and turn three Gladiator were able to keep the Jedi at bay for a while. In the end I allowed him to take an objective knowing my crack back would be able to take all three objectives if i only drew one bomb. But a well played jedi mind trick took Tarkin out of the equation leaving me one bomb short.

Great games as always.

Was able to play Kiramode tonight and get really lucky

Game 1: Donovan wins with DS. Kiramode: 1 objective and 7 damage for 7pts.

Flopped Tarkin Doctrine and Enforced Loyalty.  By turn 2 had Tarkin and Thrawn.  Double talon rolled to take two objectives.  Other tricks after that and a beefy Corruptor and Chain of command were too much.

Game 2: Donovan wins with LS.  Kiramode: Dial at 7

Turn 1: Running the trench.  By turn 3: Leia, resupply depot and too many ships to shut down.  Almost lost it with I Don't Like You Either copying a Rebel Assault.

Game 3: Donovan wins with DS. Kiramode: 2 objectives and 1 damage.

Too many scum tricks at the right time to keep Kiramode's mains off the board.

JimmyC and I started out match

Game 1:  MacRauri wins with DS yielding 2 objectives and 1 damage on board (12-8).  Despite a turn where I had no units to play and did an attack to just pitch cards, the deck managed to come through for me.  Jabba's Rancor blocked a big push by X-wings piloted by Luke and Biggs, but thanks to the Prince's Scheme I won the edge battle 5-5 and did not get nailed by I Have You Now.  Ackbar showed up to even the score and when I went to counterattack with BK at one point a Rebel Assault took him out and Jimmy was able to tactics my best defender.  Corrupt Officials are a thing though and they gave me just enough breathing room that I was able to push for lethal at the end with an Assassin getting Friendship is Magic.

Game 2:  MacRauri wins with LS dial at 8 (12-8).  Turn one Jabba vs turn 1 Lando.  Both stayed out the whole game.  JimmyC tried to nab Lando with the Ephant Mon mission, but I was able to cancel it with Diversion.  Things opened up when I was able to get an attack through with Lando with a Bo Rifle and bomb from Echo caverns and then free him up with a Well Equipped to go in against another objective.  I was 1 damage from victory with a Falcon in hand and despite the dial being at 8 with one objective down Jimmy didn't have a line to take out 2 of my objectives because of Lando.  He had a nice trap for the Falcon with Heat and Hallucination and enough 2 gun units to take out Lando, but I was able to put out both Falcon and a YT freighter and that was just enough black bombs to win.

Game 3:  JimmyC wins with LS dial at 7 (7-12).  On the flop LS got the Vima objective protected by Secret of Yavin 4 and it choked me the whole game.  Luke came in like a wrecking ball and got protected by the Vima enhancement and a Guardian.  The Landspeeder was also running wild capping off the objectives that Luke had started.  On the last turn I thought I had enough to Force Stasis Vima, so she couldn't attack and couldn't shield Luke, and then take out Luke with Ice Tromper feeding frenzy when he attacked (Feeding Frenzy doesn't "target"), but LS was able to put a Hidden in the Shadows on Vima and another Guardian of Peace out, and with that it was enough.

Game 4:  JimmyC wins with DS, yielding one objective and one damage on board (4-12).  Dark Lord of the Sith kept the Rebels at bay for the first several turns and Boc came out with a lightsaber and Dark Genocide.  I have 2 Seeds of Decay in the deck and between Judder Page and Adaptive Strategy I was able to get off 4 triggers, but in the end Palpatine was looping Force Stasis.  Only got one objective down with a Rebel Assault late game.

Game 5:  JimmyC wins with DS, yielding no objectives and one damage on board (0-12).  No DLotS this time, but Royal Guard and Pic showed up for early followed by a Terentatek.  I played Han into Vizago, but with no ability to win edge the Terentatek was just too scary.  I tried taking the Force, but Palpatine showed up the next turn, took it back and my mains started to melt under the Power of the Dark Side.  Next turn attacked with all my units into what wound up being Pic and a Terentatek.  I lost Han and Zivago, but the Jawa was able to take down the Terentatek.  A turn or two later the 2nd one came out.

Best of luck to Jim in the semi finals!

Finding a good time to play wasn't easy, but Brainiac and I got started on the finals this morning.

Game 1: I really shot myself in the foot with my objective picks, picking Gardener's Secret and then never playing a single enhancement all game long. Donovan, in the meantime, got a couple on turn one and so he got to keep the force just about the entire game and didn't have to put too much thought into committing people. I followed that lame objective flop with a pretty good first turn - three chuds backed by Raise the Stakes against a single Defel got me six easy points of damage - but I wasn't able to keep the pressure up. Donovan's board kept growing while mine stayed rather small, and in the end all I managed to do was blow up one of those damaged objectives for a total of 6 game points to me.

Game 2: this time I displayed the mythosaur emblem, and Donovan sent assorted X-wings my way. He put the trench run out turn one, already making it unlikely that I would get any use out of Heartless Tactics (which got up to full power pretty quickly), and when on turn two my Masterful Manipulation was replaced by Hunters, that pretty much locked in the trench run plan. And this time the name of the game was board building on both sides, with hardly any attacks going on. I knew I needed to attack because Desperation was going to get played and I have a grand total of 1 unit enhancement in my deck, but I never really felt safe attacking and kept hoping Donovan would decide to strike early. So the only attacks I made were to capture a couple small things with 4-LOM. Donovan did not strike early, so all the board I'd built went away in a flash, but thankfully he hadn't been doing too well with the unit enhancements either and the dial was already at 10 by then, so he only got two chances to hit the trench - one on the desperation turn, and one on the next. The first strike landed six painful damage there, but on the next he misplayed and sacked the wrong unit to Covering Fire (a focused Rogue Nine, whose protect ability from Tycho would've been relevant). The loss of that protect allowed Snoova to kill Blue Leader and that left Donovan two blast short. The dial went to 12, with 8 damage on the trench. How do we score trench run damage here?

We're planning to get one or two more games in tomorrow (Sunday) 1 am US Eastern time, so if anyone would rather watch this than sleep, you're welcome to join us.

Rules as Written state game points are based off objectives in the LS victory pile and objective damage on the board.

A failed trench run is worth 0 game points
