Valiant Sacrifice (Core) x2
Deck Strategy: My attempt at the Anduin quest solo with only one copy of the core set. Been pretty successful so far!
Basic idea is to put a Forest Snare on the Hill Troll or keep your threat low enough so that you delay engaging it. Bring out a ton of allies so that you can get through Stage 2 in as few turns as possible.
Look for a Snare, Greeting, or Unexpected Courage in opening hand. Maybe Gandalf or Steward of Gondor. Otherwise mulligan.
Try to use Beravor to draw cards whenever possible. She gets the Unexpected Courage. Steward of Gondor goes on Eowyn to help bring out the Northern Trackers. She can also use Stand & Fight to play Beorn and Faramir.

I'm trying to beat this quest with tactics/spirit....I think I'll give this idea a try....the first snare is just super powerful and helpful.

Yeah, Tactics just never seems to work for me playing solo. It's hard to give up anything from the other three spheres... threat reduction/cancellation/questing from Spirit, resources/readying from Leadership, card draw from Lore.

Well, solo Tactics works well against one (or more) of the Heirs of Numenor quests. But that's about it, I guess.

I finally took down this quest with Tactics and Spirit....ended with a score of 48...felt like I was just finally rocking it with the right card combos and not getting completely hammered by the encounter deck for once.

48? That's pretty darn good. How many rounds did it take you, considering that each completed round adds 10 points?

This scenario is killing me. I have been trying a Gloin/Theodred/Gimli combo but it has not worked in about 10 tries. This deck looks great and I will give it a go tonight. Fingers crossed because I am beginning to regret buying this game at the moment.

It worked in just two tries. The first time was a non starter thanks to an unwelcome second Hill Troll but on the second attempt it worked like a charm. It took an hour to get past the first stage and build up my little army of allies but thanks to a cracking Faramir boost after I killed the troll (I managed to get my quest willpower up to 18!) I cleared the last two stages in 2 1/2 turns!
Thank you so much for this. I don't hate this game any more!
