I would try PM'ing one of the AEG folk on Boardgamegeek, they can probably clear that up for you.

So I have actually gotten in four games of 7th Sea in the last week.  I taught two of my roommates at Gencon (in return they taught me Warlord).  Someone wandering by saw us playing and geeked out "OMG, this is my favorite card game ever!" and wanted to play next.  This was my first game playing someone that I didn't teach personally, it was great because I learned a few things from him being an experienced player.  And then finally I taught another new player last night at the game store in a marathon tutorial night - I also taught him Netrunner and Call of Cthulhu.

A friend of mine is going to give me his small collection and I have found a hobby shop that should have some of the starters I'm missing.  They had a booth at Gencon but I didn't have a list of what I did/didn't have so I just got their card and will call them to order the ones I need.

Neat. I've always wanted to play this. I have a few starter decks, and I should probably make more of an effort to trot this out with my group.

How was Warlord? I picked up a few starters for it cheap at GenCon. Of course, "rumor" (namely, this one post I saw on BGG) has it that AEG is considering both these games for the LCG treatment...I'm skeptical, but there it is...

I've only played one game, but I wasn't that impressed with Warlord.  The dice rolling felt odd, and overall the game felt a bit slow.  Specifically, your force is arranged in a formation (which is the main mechanic of the game).  i.e., at the start you probably have several little guys in the front, medium guys behind them in the second row, and your leader in the third row.  The higher level a new character is, the further back from the front row they come into play.  So, it can then take several turns to get them to the front row where they can actually fight and this felt a bit cumbersome.  I'm used to FFG-speed.  I play a guy, I want him doing stuff *now*!  Not potentially 2-3 turns worth of summoning sickness while he trots towards the front of my formation.  Note that little guys take less time, but by the nature of being little guys they're also less exciting/impactful.  Another thing is that there really isn't a resource system.  No gold, no domains, etc...  You play all your cards for free (the delay is basically a proxy for cost).  So, the decisions around how to manage your limited resources are more or less gone from gameplay.  For me, a good resourcing system is the backbone of a card game and generates a lot of interesting choices so not having one felt a little empty.

Not that it's a bad game, I can definitely see that there's strategy in how you arrange your troops, and who you choose to attack in order to try to disrupt your opponent's formation.  Just not my personal cup of tea.

As far as which CCG to reboot first, my intuition is that 7th Sea would do better in today's market.  At Gencon I talked to two AEG employees that both said they'd like to bring it back, but they were both just voicing personal opinions, nothing official.

Speaking of 7th Sea then...

I actually just acquired some additional 7th Sea cards from a friend, I'm in the process of organizing and logging all the new cards before I start making some more new decks.  If I can be of any help on rules, basic strategy, or deck design let me know.  I'm certainly no expert, but I'll do what I can.

There's an OCTGN plugin btw, if you know how to use that.  I'm still trying to figure out how to get OCTGN to run on my Mac or I'd offer to coach you through a game.  Sometime I need to try to port the plugin to Lackey when I have time.

I've decided to try to build up my collection a bit in order to make a set of decent decks for each faction.

I've got old collections of Doomtown, Netrunner, and minor amounts of Spycraft, VS, UFS, and Wyvern available for trade for your old 7th Sea stuff.

I love 7th sea (and netrunner, and battletech, and L5R, and doomtown, and doomtrooper, and rage, and V:TM, and rifts, and shadowrun, and star wars (decipher & wotc versions), and hell even spellfire) all more than I like Magic, but my friends only want to play magic (which i tolerate) or pokemon (which i abhore).

So apparently AEG just made some sort of 7th Sea deal:

http://www.alderac.c...urn-to-7th-sea/

From poking around, it sounds like this is primarily about the RPG setting, so I don't know if it will have any implications for the card game or not.

Yeah, totally looks like a RPG thing, but any glimpse of the return of 7th Sea Card game, is really welcome.

From the 3 more asked card games to return, I guess that AEG know that 7th Sea is the most loved by fans (followed closely by Warlord, and then Spycraft).

Also, aI don't understad AEG selling all the games that defined them for years and focusing on party games and plagiarists fillers.

Yep, any action at all is a god thing although the RPG doesn't really interest me.  But it should raise some awareness of the setting and it probably gives AEG a little more money coming in which they could potentially use on new projects.

If they come out with a 7th Sea ECG I'd definitely pick it up, that's what I've got my fingers crossed for.

Same here.  I'm indifferent about an RPG, but an ECG?  Sign me up.

A bit late to the party...any idea where to get some starters in Europe for me and a friend?

We would like to learn the game.

My brother and I tried 7th Sea long time ago, but after playing with the starters we decided to just stick with L5R and stopped collecting any more after that. With L5R coming back as a LCG, I wonder if a revival is coming for this game as well?

7th Sea was a classic. My local group still plays this on a regular basis (the original D10 version, not it’s D20 equivalent). We love the setting, the old Knack-style mechanics and the over-the-top swashbuckling action.
A true loss to the gaming community when Alderac ceased production.
I run it at conventions and it’s always a huge draw. Glad to see that there’s still some love for the game floating around out here.

Now that John Wick is full blown going ahead with the 2nd edition of the RPG on kickstarter, here's hoping that a revised CCG/LCG/ECG follows close behind.

not 100% confirmed, but it seems like this is saying that AEG may be bringing out a 7th Sea ECG at some point, or is at least keeping that option open:

Q: Before we reach our last question, as a tangential question, 7th Sea used to have a corresponding card game. It is currently out of print. Do you have any plans on bringing it back or has that, excuse the pun, ship sailed?

A: I don’t, but AEG does. They’re licensing the card game from us.

Best news ever.

I was almost picking the KS, only to read the new lore. But this is better.

Necro'ing this thread. We've had a few people playing on OCTGN and chatting through discord and such. Link to info about OCTGN and the discord if anyone comes across this again and is interested:  https://github.com/s...lugin-for-octgn
