For the most part I will be relying on alternate economy to keep the list going, the command game is an irrelevance for me. I do want to fit splintered path acolytes and a 3rd ominous wind in there, but don't know what to drop...
What I don't get is how people are using nurglings, what constitutes a good move with them?

They work better in bunches. I try to save 2-3 nurglings for deploying at the first planet in the last round or a round where I need to deter an enemy's snowball. Last time I played Kugath, I was able to play 3 nurglings on the first planet (a win condition for both). Decimated the enemy's army and made clean up very easy (easier because the Plaguefather's Banner was out too). That was before the current elite meta though.

I find that they are not good to play early game if you can, wait a few turns until your opponent has a few guys in his Home Area.
Then deploy them to a Planet that you think they will go to, like Planet 1 because it is the game winning planet for example.
A scenario that happened to me.
Planet 1 and 2 were both winning planets for me.
I deploy my Nurgling to Planet 1 because I know my opponent has to go there to stop me from winning, and if he doesn't my Nurgling will win.
I commit my Warlord and Train to Planet 2 to set up for my win, and my opponent went to 1, suffering Damage from the Nurgling.
Next turn with all my units on Planet 1, I deploy a new Nurgling unit as it will not affect me, but it will affect my opponent moving to Planet 1.
Something similar as welly you do with a Beast of Nurgle is plant him on a planet with a Blue Icon and then move him after the Command Phase, but before battles are started, to the planet where the enemy Warlord is.

I am guessing it is a Meta Call, but Killing Field may only really be good against that one AM Match Up?
I think you are running too many Elites, 15 is quite a lot.
Could probably get away with dropping one Warp Rift for a 3rd Ominous Rift, or even a Gut n Pillage.
I think you should included Splintered Path Acolytes and either Void Pirates or Traders.
And I only say that because in my Meta there are a lot of DE or DE Allied players and getting hit by Power from Pain sucks. Backlash wont protect you, and Fallback! does not work either.

I would remove the Frenzied Bloodthirster (redudant when you have 3x Heldrakes and Possessed), Killing Field (way too situational), and a copy of Warp Rift (you're rarely going to need to do the planet switcheroo that often) and add 3x Slaanesh's Temptation. Warlords can't easily snipe it if you have an elite sitting at a blue planet with Corrupted Teleportarium in play. Worst case scenario, it still has two shields.
Alternatively, 3x Splintered Path Acolytes is a good suggestion as well.
