Assuming everyone has seen this: http://foreverwar.de/

Has anyone taken the time to actually try any of these cards in your games?  Thoughts, if so?

I've had some interest in my local group for Warhammer: Invasion- I have hopes that in time I'll be able to get these fan expansions on the table as well (and hey, maybe design my own!).

Agreed.  I've actually started work on three different 'Deluxe Fan Expansions' as well (Bretonnian-based, one based off Black Library Novels, and one I've just started based on the End Times books), and seeing that its being done elsewhere really increases my desire to get some of them done!

I was thinking about bretonnian long ago, just after the game died. One thing I always loved about them (although I didn't like them a lot) was the lance formation as it was kind of a racial trait. when porting bretonnian to Invasion, it was the first whing I though about. Something like a keyword:

Lance (cavalry, archery or infantry): units with the lance keyword can attack from any zone if you have at least one unit with the same lance in each zone.

That would be fitting the flavour and nice to see. But a man can dream.

I would have loved to have seen Bretonnians as one of the factions. After Wood Elves they were my favorite army even though they were an absolute swine to paint.

Well, what are your guys thoughts on them?   The three things that I had been working with were the Lance Formation (which, like Tobogan has mentioned is about bringing more guys in to attack), their vows (which would give them a benefit at the start of the game and on- I hadn't considered how to incorporate that), and questing, which I thought would be a fairly constant theme throughout the Bretonnian cards.  Bonuses for quests being in play, bonuses for being ON a quest, the ability to attack and defend while questing, things like that.

I have not done too too much on this front, but I'd love to hear what else you guys are thinking of, regarding the Brets.

No reason there can't be a fan 'Deluxe Expansion', ya know :)

I would also love to see Chaos Dwarves. It was a real shame when GW dropped them.

Bretonnians should have a few units which gain bonuses for Questing for sure. I'll give it some thought over the next day or so and see what idea's I have for you. It's grand that you are doing this cos this game is awesome. Just a damned shame it gets no love.

Well, I certainly have done nothing yet- the two fan expansions released were certainly nothing I was involved in.

But I do love the game, and I do love the universe- its definitely something I'd like to see live on in some way.

I've thought about Chaos Dwarfs... I couldn't decide what to do with them- there's so little recent fluff based on them.  I did take a look at the fan-made CD army book that was released a few years ago... that's something I guess I could go with.  They probably would be better served as part of the Chaos faction, however, so balancing them against all those cards would be its own challenge.

They got officially released in a book about chaos by Forge World some years ago. It was called Tamurkhan the Throne of Chaos. I still love the hats from forth edition.

A mutation-like kayword would fit for them. Also they are dwarves and orcs, so you can apply onything is usual to them. A war machines centric army could be cool too.

Interesting... you know, I've not really been keeping up with a lot of the Forgeworld Fantasy-based releases.  Wasn't there one with a huge Empire Land-ship-thing as well?

I'll have to do some research into this.  Maybe that'll be on my to-do list too, if people are interested (you know, after I get ANY fan expansion out :) ).

Well, I wasn't making the Empire Landship up, at least.  Apparently its no longer available on the Forgeworld site, however.  Goofy as heck, but hey- if I was really struggling for new Empire units...

I guess they remove some units frmo time to time. I hope I was good at photoshop so I can make some custom cards about chaos dwars or bretonnia.

You know, I wonder who the Forever War cycle contact for artists?  Maybe just other people excited about the game to give up some of their time?

My first versions of cards had stick people on stick horses fighting stick monsters.  Not exactly inspiring.

Don't think all, but at least one, Ignazio Corrao, works for some other games like 12 Realms, and is a very good artist.

For me, if I messed with the cards, I would struggle with the numbers and power icons on the borders more than with the art itself.

You mean changing the values on a template, or determining what those values should be?

Mostly changing the values on the template, determining the values should be a math issue at first and a playtest solution in the end.

Also I would like to make a a custom  template for new armies, insted of making them boring grey neutral cards.

I worry about adding in a new faction directly- balancing out the loyalty costs seem a more complicated issue.  For some of the faction (eg, Bretonnians), having them as neutral isn't necessarily unthematic as well- small bands of Knights would go search for the grail, and would certainly encounter battles on their way.

Has anyone seen empty templates for any W:I cards?

Since these are fan expansions, I don't see it like a problem to have their own templates, but its true that wandering knights is correct for Bretonnia.

I don't have templates, but would be could to find them, maybe the foreverwar people could help.
