You could make the kessel run in that game - it was amazing.

Too bad about Decipher's president embezzling all that money lol

It was the VP, and he was the brother in law of the president.

Way off topic. But wow no never knew any of that. I'm kind of peaved now. You are probably right about the loss of license given the timing. I loved that game.

Well now we have this game and Endor looks exciting. I hoping for some Sith royal guard sets. Maybe Kir Kanos. That would be sweet.

As a former player of that Decipher Star Wars CCG, I think it has its flaws, and I didn't really like the whole Force Drain mechanic, but it was still a very enjoyable game. One thing I hope FFG will do for their Star Wars LCG is to shake up the game a bit, like Decipher introducing the Objective aspect to the game. I think the new Missions in the Endor cycle will hopefully do the same.

I really liked the concept of force drain. It was s positive thing you could do to continue to win the game of you opponent choose not to engage you. It forces conflict in a game that is so broad in scope that you might never encounter each other. It is the most important in the game.

However the concept of decking your opponent isn't necessarily the greatest idea. Mill decks in magic were pretty NPE from memory, and losing your good cards or being forced to make tough decisions about you hand wasn't necessarily the most fun thing in the Decipher game.

It's actually interesting that milling in the LCG just doesn't feel bad. Partly I think because the main milling strategies are based off capture and capture is reversible. Those cards are lost forever. The other reason that you play from a hand of 6 cards. So what you have coming up isn't as important.

As for missions, they won't be like objectives. Objectives brought focus to a deck. They allowed tutoring of important cards to get that deck concept working. They gave you goals which when completed either gave you more goals or enhanced abilities.

Missions are just a different way of approaching objectives. Instead of turning off a positive effect for your opponent you can choose instead to gain a positive effect for yourself. But they don't actually being your deck concept together. They don't create tunnel vision for your deck.

What they will do, assuming you choose to play them as the dark side player, is create a situation where the DS player is actively trying to destroy missions. A lot has been said so far about turtle vs aggression as the DS player, well objectives are definitely not part of the turtle strategy. As the DS player completely them will give you a bonus and help shorten the game. It's an interesting reward for aggro decks and an interesting way to incentivise the DS player into attacking.

For those reasons I definitely see them being more useful for the LS.

I think the missions for DS need to be suitably powerful, to balance the increased risk of attacking on DS. The spoiled Lure mission is perfectly worthwhile, and something I would take in a deck since I count on having to destroy 1-2 objectives in any DS game.

I personally enjoy trying to make mill work in the LCG, but since most turns you generally want to dump as many cards from hand as possible before your next draw, mill strategies that don't involve discarding off the deck, which are pretty few at the moment, are pretty ineffective at actually achieving a decking win. Milling in the LCG seems to be more about controlling what the other player gets to draw (Slave Trade, Tat Crash, Zuckuss) or reducing the effectiveness of a given hand (Antinnis, Interrogation Droid).

I never understood why Decipher lost the license, but if this was being revealed to Lucasarts at about the time when the license was up, it isn't that surprising that they declined the renewal.

I was coincidentally listening to an archived recording of Lisa Stevens (formerly of Wizards of the Coast) at a past GenCon discussing her history in the business. The license renewal not happening was a case of her swooping in and bargaining for the license. She had originally obtained the license for the card game back in the beginning, but somehow Decipher managed to grab it away before Wizards produced anything. Lisa then snagged it later in exchange for helping revive the dying Star Wars fan club.

The Star Wars story begins at 34:00.

Still unsure what would have happened if Decipher's licensing was renewed. Definitely slower releases than what they rushed out in the early 00's. It may have taken longer for the embezzlement to come to light?

The game was in a pretty flawed space by the time they lost the license, though part of that was that they knew they were losing it.

Still I really wanted Episode 2 cards.

I want pre-quel cards in SWLCG =/ The era isn't bad, and there are some REALLY interesting LEGENDS and CANON stories to be told there.

And we already have flip-out and kill everyone Yoda anyways :P Shii-Cho + High dial MTFBWY

Mace - despite being a marketing tool to attract African american audiences who had historically not been a high % of the Star Wars audience - DID give us another prominent minority character..second only to Yoda...with a REALLY cool "skirts close to the dark side" storyline... (which while cool is also just another example of lucas using racial sterotypes/trope..."angry black man" ...just look at gunguns or the trade federation ect for other examples)

But they took that trope and RAN with it. And I want Vapaad.

You have so many interesting decks..underwater with gunguns (who are NOT idiots like in the film but actually a respectable people who help the Mon Calamari) - and kit fisto fits in with that.

You have Senate Era palp...

so much cool stuff/

And with Endor next, what else do we really have "set piece" wise?

Would LOVE to see a Scum/Smug cycle around RESOURCE manipulation..smugling..stealing opponents resources.

Now your starting to sound like yankeefan!  Considering FFG is using expanded universe, there is literally tons of untapped material.  and even if they weren't, look at decipher's star wars ccg.  You realize we don't even have 1/5th of the units and locations that were used in that game, probably more than that.   You could do an entire cycle on the mos eisley cantina alone.  Same with jabbas palace, yavin 4, the death star 1 or 2, alderan, coruscant, the outer rim, tatooine, all the different space battles (yavin 4, endor), cloud city, i mean i could literally go on and on and on and on.

We don't even have a Ponda Baba and Dr. Evazan yet for gods sakes, nor A SINGLE member of the modal nodes!

here is two pages that show you just how content is still left for just 2 small places.

I'd love to see more Cloud City stuff that's playable, or further exploration of Tatooine, Alderaan, etc. I have a feeling Cloud City and/or Kashyyk will feature prominently in the new box.

I was going to predict the Rebel/Sith deluxe being themed around the Death Star(s), but the Endor cycle makes that a bit less likely I think.

Looking through that list of Cantina characters brings back a lot of memories from the CCG.

Dice Ibegon, Kitik Keed'kak, Danz Borin, Ickabel G'ont to name a few...

So much content to tap into...

I used to love to just drop Kitik down on a 1 power unit just to get them to get rid of 7 cards.  I really want to see them flesh out some of these lesser known guys more for sure.  I mean how many versions do we want of every main?   i mean we're going to have 5 luke's by the end of endor, and we don't a single figrin d'an!!  Come on FFG!!  Although, i won't complain if i get a bunch more versions of Fett though....

I really want to start seeing some lesser known bounty hunters like Bane Malar, Jodo Kast (boba fett copy cat), Danz Borin, feltipern trevagg, Beedo, Ree Yees, Djas Phur, etc.  Plus, i'd like to see more unique weapons and armor/gadgets introduced as well.
