SO here is what I think I'm heading to with WotN and CoW coming along. I'm at 62 cards and I have no idea what to cut. I tried to have in mind that First Snow of Winter but I still think I shouldn't play around it at all during deckbuilding.

Faction:
The Night's Watch

Agenda:
1x Fealty (Core Set)

Plot:
1x Building Orders (Core Set)
1x Counting Coppers (Core Set)
1x Fortified Position (Core Set)
1x Wildfire Assault (Core Set)
1x Here to Serve (Taking the Black)
1x Trading with the Pentoshi (The Road to Winterfell)
1x For the Watch! (No Middle Ground)

Character:
1x Littlefinger (Core Set)
3x Benjen Stark (Core Set)
1x Ghost (Core Set)
2x Maester Aemon (Core Set)
3x Old Bear Mormont (Core Set)
2x Samwell Tarly (Core Set)
1x Ser Waymar Royce (Core Set)
3x Messenger Raven (Core Set)
3x Old Forest Hunter (Core Set)
3x Ranging Party (Core Set)
3x Steward at the Wall (Core Set)
2x Veteran Builder (Core Set)
1x Will (Taking the Black)
2x Unsworn Apprentice (The Road to Winterfell)
2x Syrio Forel (The Road to Winterfell)
2x Ser Alliser Thorne (The King's Peace)

Attachment:
2x Little Bird (Core Set)
2x Longclaw (Core Set)
2x Practice Blade (The King's Peace)

Event:
2x The Hand’s Judgment (Core Set)
2x The Watch Has Need (Taking the Black)
2x The Watcher on the Walls (No Middle Ground)
2x Nightmares (Calm Over Westeros)

Location:
3x The Wall (Core Set)
3x The Kingsroad (Core Set)
3x The Roseroad (Core Set)
2x Castle Black (Core Set)
2x The Shadow Tower (Wolves of the North)
1x Northern Rookery (Calm Over Westeros)

If I were compelled to get down to 60, I'd cut 1 Watch has Need and the Northern Rookery. You're not running Halder, so the Rookery will be a 2 gold draw 1 card and +1 reserve card. This is nice with the Watch has need, but without Halder, it serves no other real purpose unless you get it early game or get all 3 ravens.

As the game goes on, reserve matters less and less, so I could see the Rookery being a bad draw later in the game. It's a cantrip, but a very expensive one that could really ruin a turn 5 or 6 when you really really need a character.

the Watch has need is a nice card, but not necessary in a lot of cases. Plus, with counting Coppers, Will, Sam and the Ravens, you should have more than enough draw as it is.

All that said, I've always been comfortable in the 61 to 62 card range, so I think the deck is right in that good place. Although, gun to my head, I'd probably drop to 61 by removing the Rookery.

I pulled a nice trick in one of my games where I had a good hand flush with what I needed but no econ...so I played The Watch has need while I had an old forest hunter out during dom searching for rangers, pulled 3 off the top 8 cards.
In the next turn, I kept one of those cards and discarded the two other for gold (one during the plot phase, the other during draw) as well as another card in marshalling so I got an extra 3 gold I needed to play Benjen, another character (I want to say a raven), the Wall and had enough gold to play Sword in the Darkness in the challenges.
It was clutch.

In a sense, the Watch has need became a desperate econ card with the old forest hunters. I traded one card for 3 gold.

(EDITED for spelling)

I do agree with Joe: if you have Counting Coppers in your plots, and do not run Halder, you don't really need the Rookery and 2x Watch has need.

How did you trade 1 card for 3 gold  :) Sounds like 4 cards for 3 gold

P.S.

I don't think I can run Watches without The watch has needs. Last few games where I ran only Watchers on the wall I had only 1 Ranger or none. I need to find those so I can enable the event.

Yes it is technically 4 cards, but I saw cards I drew as fuel for my econ so I didn't mind so much I guess haha
That's why I only counted the card I played in there.

I got navaled first turn on my Trading. I managed to recover but lost about turn 4-5.

I setet up good. My Opponent decided to be passive 2nd turn and I managed to Jump Raging Party with Old Bear. After that I got complete lock down on the game.

R3: vs Stark Fealty

I scooped at turn 2. Not much to say. I got brutalized.

R4: vs Lani Crossing

I manged to keep control of the game. Old bear and the wall showed up turn 2.

In the end I finished 2-2 of the day and finished 7th of 12 players (Wooohooo we got 12 players).

I dropped Trading with the Pentoshi altogether from my plot decks. Too many Naval Superiority players with a flair to play it at the right time in my meta.

I replaced it with Calling the Banners instead. That way, I don't get totally blown out of the game when I get hit while preventing my opponent bonus gold that they use to play their events when that happens. Higher initiative works for me also.

Here's a question for my fellow NW players:

When True Steel comes out, assuming you guys play Old Bear, do we drop little birds for the Raven? keep a mix of both?

Little birds were good on other targets: stonesnake, benjen, alliser. If Old Bear didn't come out, or if I already had it on him, I could have the option to put it on these fellows.
Now, giving stealth to another NW than old bear seems not good. Most of the ones that can take it either already have stealth, or negatr your opponents' stealth. It seems less versatile..

I think I'd end up with 1 Littlebird, 2 Old Bear's Ravens. That recovers a neutral slot for me and giving Alliser or Benjen Stealth is a nice consolation.

Personally, I wish the card read the other way around; giving an intrigue icon to anyone and giving stealth if it's Old Bear. I feel like that would be way more useful. But this is what we've been dealt.

Maybe I'll end up doing 2 each, though.  Or maybe 2 Littlebirds and 1 Raven. I'm not sure. I'll know more after play testing.

This is the latest iterration of my fealty deck that i havent had the chance to really test yet. What do you guys think?

Also do you think one economy plot is enough? I have lost many games beacuse i didnt have the gold to play my hand but many times also a had too many gold that were wasted. I would like to run Wildfire instead of the second economy plot but i cant decide which would be better.

thoughts?

I'd run Wildfire Assault instead of Confiscation; NW has a lot of no attachment guys and you won't be forced to discard one of your 8 attachments.

Or instead of Here to Serve. The only useful thing about that plot is to go get a dupe so Aemon can survive First Snow...but you probably havr enough draw that this might not be a big problem. I don't know, I just find this plot very underwhelming in NW, like a gun that can only fire one bullet.

I think NW should have at the very least 36 characters.  I run 38.

You can go to 1 copy of Aemon, since you run Here to Serve. I agree that Trading with Pentoshi is not a great plot--works nicely for you but it just always boosts your opponent so much. Two calling the banners is great for NW, since they usually aren't killing too many opponent's characters, and the initiative is excellent.

I like having 1 Ghost and 1 Stonesnake--the stealth is very helpful. I skip Syrio.

Otherwise your list is pretty close to mine.

Sooo Dockside was a thing this weekend and I went with NW in both Joust and Melee. I won best NW at the Joust and I had to show my sweet new tokens on the melee.

I went with terrible Start of 0-3 (Mirri and Varys ruined my morning) and afterwards I sweeped the last tables and went to 3-3 :) Here are some notes from my games. Also my notes aren't much detailed as I wished.

Apologies for I may get names wrong and I'm sorry about that.

Here is the deck: https://thronesdb.com/deck/view/100127

R1 - Targaryan Banner of the Lion - Thijs Meeuwsen

Set up for Thijs was: Mirri, Viserys and Roseroad

Me: Tourney Grounds and Old Forest Hunter (MVP all day) , Benjen

T1 - Noble Cause vs Building Orders (I fetched Milk of the Poppy)

Thijs wasn't letting go he played Jorah and Drogo

I Milked Mirri and played reducer. And saved some gold because I was sure some other form of Kill is coming so I should try to stop it :)

T2 - Marched vs Fortified Position - I played Fortified because I was expecting shenanigans to get Visrys out of play so I played around that.

Thijs played Plaza of Punishment and ruined my plans. Turn went his way as well.

T3 - Confiscation vs Fallen from Favor - Here I tried to come back in the game.

Thijs had other plans Marshaling the Hound and Viserys.

Game ended soon afterwards.

0-1

------

R2 Baratheon banner of the Sun

This game was really fast.

T1 Roen played Mellisandra and Chamber of the painted table. I don't recall what was kneeled at the turn.

I played few cards I recall Ranging party and Samwell and a Ravenprobably

T2 Roen let me go first. I marshaled one more Ranging party and Raven.

He marshaled Dupe on Mell and Varys. In dominance only Mell was left on the board and I couldn't recover from that.

Here I had to go and get my self a second Beer after I had one after Thijs.

0-2

------

R3 - Targaryan Banner of the Lion - Jamie "Bambi" Bamfield

I knew what was going to happen from the flip when I saw Mirri, Reducer and Roseroad vs my One character setup with few locations.

T1 I got marched vs Calm over westeros (military)

I had to play only one character in the face of Littlefinger to look for Milk or Nightmares

I found nightmares and my Little finger survived till next turn.

T2 I played Building Orders found Milk and stopped Mirri one more turn.

T3 Here I made mistake. I should have played Fortified position I had the card to establish board that could handle Mirri but I played For the watch!.

Bambi played Hound and started Wiping my board with Mirri and Military claim.

Game ended few turns later just because he was too careful.

0-3

------

At this point I was very depressed and tilted. Had a lunch to calm down and tanks to my buddy that was traveling with me.

R4 Here is where my rise started I played vs Lannister Lords of the Crossing - Ryan

T1 Noble Cause vs Calm over Westeros

He marshaled Tywin. I marshaled 2 Ranges (Party and Old Forest Hunter) and I had Watches of the wall :)

Tywin did a military challenge that he didn't survived.

T2 Trading vs Building orders.

I found my Wall.

Ryan played The Mountain so I had to postpone playing the wall and put some more guys on the boar and that being Old Bear Mormont

In the challenges I played Nightmares on the mountain and stopped him from killing someone that wasn't supposed to die. Old forest hunter that slayed Tywin went for claim.

T3 I played Fortified position so I can safely play the Wall. I recall Treachery was used twice to stop the Shadow tower previous rounds.

T4 My whole board was online and I locked the game out.

1-3

------

R5 Stark Fealty ? - I had few beers by that point. I play mister - Christopher Sweeney

Comment after the match was "**** the Nights Watch" I think he was upset that I hit his Sneak Attack with For the Watch! T2. Old Bear managed to put a Ranging Party into play.

T3 One of my Milks showed up and I played Milk on Robb. That pretty much sealed the game for me. We had beer afterwards.

2-3

------

R6 Again Stark Fealty - It was time for revenge I played vs Thijs Brother Chris Meeuwsen

T1 Sneak Attack vs Calm over Westeros  - I didn't think he would play Sneak first turn because I though his set up wasn't that good. I think I had the Wall in play from Setup.

He had Catelyn and I was worried that I'll have to face 2-3 Claim Intrigue so I called Intrigue on the Calm. I had a lot of chuds to kill and had good cards in hand.

He opted for the Military that he sneaked thanks to Syrio of his own. Thank god it was only 2 Claim.

T2 Noble Cause vs For the Watch! I played Milk on Syrio as he was biggest thread on the board and left Catylin to do her thing.

HE opted in a huge Intrigue first challenge that used a lot of his resources.

After this point my notes end. I recall that my next turns I was more on the offense than defense that won me the game in the end.

That pretty much sums up the Joust. 3-3 and I got really Nice Dracula NW Tokens as a reward.

A thing I'll change in future. I'll find a space for Here to Serve. Protection from the rampad Target kill is necessary so we can protect the wall to the fullest.

Cheers,

Ivan

P.S. For the Melee I took NW Crossing that I build the Night before the event after few more beers. I don't have online decklist for it but I'll make one tomorrow and post it here after I look at the deck (it is still in the deckbox). Thing I'll change there. I'll add 2-3x Street of Steel so I can find Longclaw faster. These were my thoughts after the day.

Here is the deck that I ran (https://thronesdb.com/deck/view/100199). I have no idea why I have 2 Longclaws in it only. It looks like I wanted better Icon spread with the Practice blade. Things I'll change are remove the Taken the black, I was planning to Pay to Win but it wasn't that prevalent or I didn't face any of those Arbor knights to Bribe them. I'll add the Street of Steel and 3rd Longclaw and go up in Nightmares/Superior Claim.

...

1x Northern Rookery (Calm Over Westeros)

Cut this blank card that says "Lose 2 gold to play this in order to be allowed to draw another card from your deck that you should have just drawn in the first place".

Then you only need to find one more card to cut. :)

Northern Rookery will be worth considering when Night Gathers comes out, but I agree if there is 1 or 2 cards to remove from the deck, I'd start with this one.

Excellent report Ivan. Those first three games just sounded like really bad luck. Getting Mirri, 1 coster and Rose Road set up in both games is just crazy good start. I agree with you 100% that Here to Serve should be added to the plot deck. More targeted kill is coming out in this next chapter pack with Tyene, so Aemon will become even more important than before. Plus, being able to get Aemon out early means you can dupe him once you draw another copy, making him safe from First Snow and actually able to mitigate claim that turn. Both are great reasons to run the plot. For the moment, I have removed Wildfire in order to make room for Here to Serve. We'll see if that works out. I'm nervous about removing my only reset, but Aemon is just so important for the deck right now.

Good job rebounding from an 0-3 start too. I have been there before and it can be very discouraging. You just gotta have faith in your testing and deck build.

Longclaw and unopposed challenges of your own, I guess. That's another combo build that hums if it all clicks, and NW is not great at interfering with opponent's passive combos. Maybe pick and choose what rounds to forgo the wall to pick up INT/POW challenge wins and/or DOM str?

Veteran builder is a high-str power icon who can pop for 2 power, so if that's a matchup you fear he might be good.

You stop playing NIghts Watch and you play Lannister or Targ. :P
