As with others, I don't intend to shoot the messenger here Evan and fully appreciate you delivering this information to us. But this message from OP seems like it's missing the point - we're not (currently!) worried about the Regional structure, but the Store Championship structure, and our complaints are around the structure for the SCs. "Wait until we tell you about the Regionals!" can only really be considered an answer to "we have problems with the SCs structure" if it's taken as a threat... I obviously presume that's not the case, but it would frankly be weird if the regionals article addressed specific issues the community has with the SCs, so without further word from them I can only presume the response from OP is essentially "we're not changing it, now wait until the next article that moves onto a separate issue", which is pretty unsatisfactory for the people who are having their organised play experience actively diminished by the new SC structure rules.

I believe the reason behind waiting for the Regionals article is that, at that point, everyone will be able to see and examine the full Organized Play season—from Store Championships through to premier-level tournaments like Worlds. This broader perspective could influence on how you then look at the Store Championships level of OP. Unfortunately, I can't really say much more about it without descending into meaningless conjecture; since I don't work in Organized Play, I haven't seen this upcoming article, and I don't know what it will convey.

I definitely understand where you and others are coming from with this—after all, Store Championships are the only level of "official" tournament that I'm allowed to compete in. As I mentioned above, if you have any comments or concerns you want to express before the Regionals article, you can take advantage of the organizedplay@fantasyflightgames.com email.

Hopefully that answers some of your questions. Sorry I don't have more information!

Around here, TOs unanimously (and quite roundly) rejected the new "suggested" numbers of rounds and cut sizes in favor of the old ones.

Not coming down on you, but seeing the entire OP structure will not (I want to emphasize WILL NOT) make the Store Championship rules better or seem better. They are unsatisfactory as a competitive structure under these rules, unless Store Championships are supposed to be completely casual with nothing on the line. If that is the case the it should not be called a championship and should not have a prize of the regional bye.

Why would/should Regionals operate under a different structure then Store Championships? They are already "grander" due to thier limit and the fact that they will be larger events in nearly every case.

FFG recently hired a new OP Director, and if this is something he had input on or what not I'm already losing confidence in that hire.

Running a 24 player event (for instance) with a top 4 with only 4 rounds of pre-lims is absurd. You are likely to end up with 5-7 3-1s and only 2-3 cut spots for them. Meaning at least 3 get eliminated on tiebreakers. And since the tiebreaker is SOS it is not inaccurate to say that they get eliminated due to random chance. That is a joke when you look at the competitive integrity of that event. Yet that is how FFG wants events to work? Or did no one at FFG take the time to simulate events out with this format in place.

I get getting rid of the near 50% of the field top cuts. But you can't both cut the rounds down and cut the top cut short.
