Yes, if you choose to look at the card, you have to put it into the edge stack.

While this objective is undamaged, it gains: "Interrupt: When you would place a card into an edge stack, you may instead look at the top card of your deck and place it facedown in your edgestack. (Limit once per edge battle.)"

So do you have to play it in your edge stack?
