Those are all reasons that could cause FFG to not want to put forth the effort required to support Melee as they do Joust. Thus it becomes a side event, not equal to Joust in there view, and ultimately not requiring the effort from them that they would otherwise be expected to give.

This is exactly what we're complaining about: FFG considering Melee as not worth as much as Joust. Note that they have done Melee OP for years during 1st edition. It's not like they cannot do it, so we come here to say "continue to support Melee, we love it, and if you pull support for it, we'll be pissed".

Their 1st Edition experience with running Melee as an OP format is likely exactly what led to it be shifted to a side event in 2nd Edition.

FFG should try do better for OP in general (yes, including for Joust). As a European player (and specifically a French one), I've participated (and judged) in many player-organized tournaments (this includes events that are part of the OP, like Stores, Regionals and Nationals, as well as events that aren't, like Stahleck and the European circuit leading up to it). All regionals and nationals organized in France feature both Joust and Melee, as a matter of course. And before FFG removed the overall ranking, byes (and the ticket to worlds) were given to the overall champion, also as a matter of course (even though the byes could only be used in Joust). I can't remember any serious problem in our Melee tournaments, by the way (unlike Joust).

If i'm counting correctly, 115 players already signed for Melee at the French Nationals.

And i am just talking about melee...

I would love FFG to explain us how that can be considered a "side" event ?
