I remember asking this when Star Wars LCG was announced, but for Star Wars Destiny would there be interest in a player-ran Cash Tournament series? For me, I find it hard to play a Trading Card Game that you have to spend much more on to get anything than for the typical FFG-type prizes like playmats and tokens.

Apologies for necroing this one, but I'm on the verge of buying into Destiny. Played some starter set games with a friend's sets, and the next day was on cardgamedb building decks.
Pleased to see Kaloo is into this game. That's a big plus.
A good competitive scene would clinch the deal for me (and probably for buddy Caldera too). Does anybody know if FFG is going to be running sanctioned tournaments for this? Is anyone aware of any UK tourneys for this?

We know that FFG has prize support for Destiny tournaments:

I haven't seen any FLGS with announcements yet, but I'd think February at least. The UK is usually also supported as well, although sometimes later than the US.
We also know that Destiny will be supported at FFG's May World Tournaments this year around May 4th - 7th at Roseville, MN. Can't find that link though.

Thanks!
I guess all I got to do now is wait for cards to come back in stock at the RRP, and I'll be buying into this. No way am I paying a 25% mark-up on Amazon for being LTTP.
Hopefully FFG will be smart enough to increase supply to meet demand.

Nice to see that I'm appreciated . The game's fun, but the CCG format is starting to annoy me. For example, I'm just not bothered to buy a second box knowing that I'll need at least a third in order to get all of the legendaries, so I'd rather just stick to mostly rare decks, which then hampers competitiveness. Probably wouldn't have bothered if Conquest hadn't died
. Still, it's something to do until the promised game arrives (L5R better be good, the hype is real).
Regarding the competitive scene, Warboar in Bromley do a mini tournament every Friday night and they've been getting 12-16 people every week since launch, with a high number of unique players (~25+), so the competitive scene seems pretty decent. They've confirmed Destiny to be in the European Championships at the UK Games Expo in June, as well as all the regular OP events, although Destiny wont feature in the SW Regionals season this year since it started pretty much as the game was released.

I know what you mean with the CCG format. I've got a decent mix of the non-dice cards, but I'm very annoyed that I'll need a second copy of the characters I already have to be able to use them as 2 dice versions. If there's 17 Legendaries to pick from, and 6 Legendaries per box, I've only got a 30.4% of getting the second copy of Darth Vader that I want. At £85 a shot, that's long odds.Buy it as a single? £30-40.
I mean, the singles market is clearly a mugs game for rares and legendaries. I suspect best thing to do may be to get that second box, and then just build based on what I have, as 2 boosters is almost certainly enough to be competitive.
Like yourself, I wouldn't have bothered in the absence of Conquest and am killing time till Lo5R. So if you're stopping at one box, than so shall I.

I think I will be collecting most of the cards from the first set and treat this thing as a really fun boardgame (which it really is!). But even thinking about doing the same routine THREE TIMES a year with new sets makes my chest hurt big time :/

I guess it depends how big each set will be. If they're all this size, that's going to get expensive quick. Even 1 booster box 3 times a year is too rich for me, I think.

Yeah I find it hard to justify the fact that a booster box is roughly equivalent to an LCG cycle price wise but with no where near the number of unique cards (let alone full sets). Having said that, it's certainly possible to make competitive decks with just rares given that the power level difference between the rares and legendaries isn't much, it's just a pain that some of the legendaries are very good cards for certain decks. For example, I'm not fussed for not having any Commanding Presence in my Red decks, but I'd love to have Force Choke in my Blue decks.

I probably should mention that I've picked up roughly half a boxes' worth of boosters here and there given that Bromley's weekly tournament prizes were booster packs and I bought a few here and there when I was more optimistic. At 1.5 boxes you can almost get every rare after trading, but 1 box is still fine for making decent decks. Some good rare combos are eQui-gon + eRey (or Qui-gon/Rey/Padawan), eJango + eVeers (or double Trooper instead of Veers), eFinn + eAckbar, eGrevious + Dooku (or Kylo if Dooku's not available), eAckbar + 2x Hired Gun (or 1x Gun + Trooper/Padawan, but I prefer the hp) and, my personal favourite, 2x Trooper + Nightsister + Bala Tik.

While great-to-have-cards, I'm packing 2xCommanding Presence, 2xCrime Lord and 2xBlack One at the moment. I'd take some other legendaries over them for sure :/

Awesome - Can and have built that one independently off my existing cards. It almost built itself to be honest - whatever cheap effects I felt were best, redeploy upgrades only apart from a pair of booster rifles, then all the cards that benefit from having non-uniques and high numbers. Glad to see we thought alike.

Ironically I have 2x Vader, 2x Jabba, 1x Luke, 1x Poe and 1x One with the Force. Whilst One with the Force goes with pretty much any Blue Hero deck, Vader isn't that difficult to beat once you've played with him a few times (and is much more consistent when you include the 2 Force Chokes I don't have) and similarly Jabba benefits a lot from having a Crime Lord in the deck. Whilst the decks I can make with those characters aren't bad by any means, I feel far less incentivised to do so knowing that I'm missing key cards.

I initially built it as 3 Troopers + 1 Tusken since I didn't have the Bala or Sister, on the condition that you could get around the action disadvantage of having both damage types by triggering the Tusken's ability whenever a melee side was rolled, as well as being able to activate all 4 chars with Squad Tactics, but I've found the Bala/Sister version to be much more consistent. I was playing the deck a lot before christmas and it was doing quite well for me, with the main issues really just being my lack of having all of the cards that it needed. Of the 2 mini tournaments that I went to with it in Bromley I went 2-1 with it, both times losing to the same guy whom was pretty much running the same deck (and both times it was really just down to whom rolled better). Beat "top tier" decks like Vader/eJabba (I actually ran out of cards in that one, but killed his last character before the round ended), eJango/eVeers (completely wrecked this deck since I killed Veers on the second or third turn).
I've tried a few versions of it, but the core is every gun that's available that costs 2 or less (Blaster Pistol, Holdout Blaster, F-11 rifle, Jetpack), as much control as possible that isn't colour dependent (unless it's Red dependent) (He Doesn't Like You, The Best Defence etc), Tactical Mastery + Squad Tactics, 1xEndless Ranks, and Imperial Armoury. Since I'm using Imperial Armoury, I thought to also include a bunch of 1 cost attachments so that it can always trigger like On The Hunt, Datapad, Promotion so that I can almost always trigger it without having any resources or losing any dice in the process. I tried a Sith Holocron variant which had Force Choke, Mind Probe and Immobilise (where the Holocrons go on the non-blue chars), along with Datapads to help trigger the Holocrons, since you then have a bunch of double blank cards to make Power of the Dark Side and Nowhere To Hide more effective, but I found that they are both cards that are too slow to be helpful (although Power of the Dark Side is better than Nowhere to Hide). My opponent in Bromley was running a redeploy heavy variant with Lightsabers and Gaffi Sticks so that there would be no good target to kill first, but I'm not a huge fan of mixing damage types (especially when most of the melee sides either cost a resource or are modifiers).
