Saim-Hann Seer reads: "Choose an enemy unit at this planet. That unit loses all printed keywords until the end of the round. Then, this unit gains all keywords lost as a result of this effect until the end of the round. (Limit once per round).

 

Gun Drones reads: "You may deploy this card as a drone attachment with the text, "attach to a non-vehicle army unit. Attached unit gains Area Effect (2)."

 

If Gun Drones is attached to an army unit, giving that unit Area Affect (2), can Saim-Hann Seer use it's action to steal the area affect keyword?

Thinking about it more I'm leaning towards "no", because the gun drones attachment grants it the abilities of a key word, but it doesn't give it a printed key word. Saim-Hann causes a unit to lose printed keywords.

Agreed, it is not an instance of printed area effect on the unit.

The area effect conferred by the Gun Drones is not originally printed on the unit, therefore it does not fulfill the condition to trigger the ability of the Saim-Hann Seer.

 

Check the RRG on pg. 12: "Printed - The word 'printed' refers to the text, characteristic, or value that is physically printed on the card".
