Several LotR players were also in attendance playing their latest OP event. Both groups paid £20 and both kits cost the store the same amount but the contents in the Arkham Horror kit were vastly inferior to the LotR kit. We got no specific scenario unlike the LotR guys and this left a bad taste in the mouths of the AH players.
Did anyone else feel the same?

No? Our event was free though so....
you got the playmat and alt-art stuff for free? Where was your event at?
and we haven't had our AH event yet - it's this weekend - but compared to getting an entire PoD quest with the LotR kit (and playmat and alt-art), it is definitely not cost equivalent to what we get for AH.

Connecticut. There is another free one Thursday and then over the next 3 months one store is running it 6 different times at 5 bucks per person (in store credit, you buy a 5 dollar gift certificate so it's also free).

I don't think there was an LotR event at mine this past weekend, but I was kind of surprised by the quality. My holiday playmat came the morning of, and when I took it to the event i was surprised and the difference in quality between the two mats.
While it was know it wasn't going to be out for the events, I'm still surprised they didn't have the Labyrinths of Lunacy stand alone in the package, even if it was just one and somehow the resolution of the game helped determined who got it.

Now I'm curious to see what the quality of the mat is like. Each LotR mat I've got from their Fellowship and Gen-Con events have been of varying size and quality as they are obviously still working with different printers. The LotR map mat from this years fellowship event was pretty good quality and thickness. I'll see how the AH one turns out on Sat.
I'm curious what Ultimatums you guys plan to use. I think we are going with the "when you die from sanity/dmg, you have to bring in a new investigator next game" and decks with only 1x of every card. (No I don't feel like looking up the doc to see the official names.)

I attended one a few weeks ago and it was disappointing. The playmat and cards were very nice, the Ultimatums just didn't seem like enough for an organized event. Even if it was an alternate/new encounter set for an already existing scenario, that would have been nice.
I think that a store could make this a really fun event, but it's really left up to them to make it a worthwhile event. This first go at organized play, FFG didn't do much to help make it a worthwhile event. I have high hopes for future events though!
