I know this is a broad question and you are probably going to say "depends on the card".

I am just struggling with deciding how many copies of a card to put into a deck. Some of the decks I build might rely heavily on a unique card (Narvi's Belt + Gloin hero for example) but do I put 1 or 3 of those in?

Are there any good rule of thumbs etc?

How essential is the card to your deck? If you need it, then put all the copies you have in (not breaking the 3 max rule, of course). You might not need three copies of the card, but as not every card is going to come out of the deck, having 3 maximises the probability of drawing the card.

yea it does depend on the card, how badly you need it and how much other ways you have to search/fetch it.  If you have Spirit Glorfindel, for example, you'd want 3x of his Light of Valinor to get the most out of him.  If you are running (or someone else is running) Spirit Eowyn, having duplicates of unique cards isn't wasted as you can always make use of them by discarding to increase her will power on the quest phase.

As for my general rule of thumb, 3x for 1-2 cards I really really need.  then 1x or 2x of others as I can fit into the deck and can afford their costs.

*disclaimer - my play experiences are purely in a 4 player fellowship, so your mileage may vary.

Is this game fun? Is it similar to Star Wars LCG?

we wouldn't be here if it wasn't fun.  ;)   I'd recommend checking out FB group to get access to a more active crowd.
