On to the Elimination Round of the 2020 Fall Online Tournament!



Players who make the cut will have until Thursday August 26, 11:59pm to pm me (MacRauri) and lock in their decklists. Please remember: you must lock in 4 totally non-overlapping decks,  This includes affiliation cards!  

The Elimination Round is single elimination best of 5. During the first round where there is a clear higher seed the higher seed will decide which side to start with, then each player secretly decides which deck of that side they will field in game 1.  In game two players alternate sides and again secretly pick which deck they would like to play.   Players will alternate sides exhausting decks until a winner is determined. Should a 5th game be needed, the player with more game-points earned during the match may decide if they will play LS or DS in the 5th game, and then both players secretly decide which deck to field . If that is a tie decide randomly.

Feel free to split your games up across multiple nights and report as you go along.

MacRauri vs Haxxson

 

Game 1:  I picked LS and we both went into the tank deciding on decks.  I decided to come out swinging with my target of opportunity deck and Haxxson picked his Sith Coaxium.  I knew Vader pings could be a potential problem if my units didn't survive to the edge battle and he also had a twist in his deck.  Turn 1 Haxxson played Rav and committed.  I played a droid and Echo caverns and swung at Web.  Rav blocked.  I bid won edge by a lot, 2 targets, a Hit and Run trigger and the droid took out the objective.  turn 2, Haxxson played Vader got a ping damage on my droid and swung with Rav to damage Commando Ops.  I did something that might have been foolish.  I moved Rav's bomb over to Vader to minimize the blast on my objective.  Except then Vader had 3 bombs and Haxxson decided to send him in at Broken Horn to take out my money and move the dial.  The race was on.  Haxxson had no defenders, but Vader was on the board.  I was fearful of Choke and ping damage, but decided if Haxxson had it he had it.  Between targets, units with blast, Hit and Run and Echo Caverns I had just enough for game.  Except a Vader ping robbed me of a blast.  I took an objective and put 4 on another.  The dial moved to 6.  I was pretty sure he didn't have any ways to take 3 objectives in one turn and I just needed to sneak through one more damage.  Haxxson played a Shadow Guard and recurred the Sate event so I would now have to deal with a shield as well.  Vader got his stick and went on offense to whittle down my board.  He took another objective sending the dial to 8, but didn't go all out to move things to 11.  I drew Target, Judder Page and Adaptive Strategy and swung all out.

Game 2:  We both went back into the tank and I decided to play my Mission Palp deck.  Haxxson went with his Smuggler Coaxium ships with bombs deck.  I had Vader's Fist on my flop, with Yularen and Battle of Hoth in hand so I felt pretty good about my chances to squeeze him.  Turn 1 I didn't see any AT-ATs and instead played the 501st legion and committed.  Haxxson was on 5 cards, but he made the most of them playing Falcon and a CCO tapping out Calling in Favors for the rest of the game.  Falcon went and put 3 damage on Fist.  I think I blocked the CCO, won edge but had to double focus.  I was able to remove all the damage on my objectives on my turn with Yularen and Battle of Hoth putting the squeeze back on Haxxson, but I didn't have any answers for Falcon which was threatening to just keep coming in and potentially with a shield from the Leia objective.  During the next couple turns Haxxson got out Resupply Depot and started playing Corvettes and a blockade runner easily taking 2 objectives.  The board presented itself with a corvette, a blockade runner, resupply depot and a Falcon that could come back in.  Plenty of bombs.  I had a cute play where he placed the Leia objective shield on a Corvette allowing me to play Aggressive Assault to destroy Fleeing the Empire putting him on 4 money and evading the Falcon.  He dropped a Corvette instead.  My Defense held on by a thread.  I had Mithel, and an AT-AT to shield Blizzard 1.  He would get 2 strikes off, but Mithel deprived him of the 1 bomb he needed.  I was able to take 2 objectives on the crack back and win.

Game 3:  Our next deck match-up was locked in with Haxxson's Night Night deck vs my Fighter's for Freedom deck.  My starting hand was looking good with Hera into Pushing Back reduction on YYSY along with Protection fate card and a lightsaber deflection.  Turn 1 Haxxson played Mara gave her a blaster pistol and committed.  He also had Knives in the Night out so Mara had 4 guns.  I mulled over if I still wanted to attack turn 1, decided against it and committed both my units.  Next I remember a Nightsister and a spider coming out and Mara going in for an attack.  Yoda stepped up to defend.  I figured even with 4 guns I was safe because of Protection and lightsaber deflection, but Haxxson had double Echoes, committing and uncommitting the Nightsister.  It was just enough damage to get around both protection and lightsaber deflection and Yoda left the board without getting to strike.  In subsequent turns Bane and Nightmom came out.  but I was able to rebuild with Phantom, Yoda and Rex.  Double Pushing Back the Empire really helped.  In my last turn I got Cassian who was able to give me just enough options despite not winning edge in the final turn.
