That's interesting. Has anyone found good  use for her?

As a character she is dismal. So you would only include her and play her for her ability. But Under the Porch is the same cost and a has much better ability for most purposes. I can' see this making it into a serious deck.

The clearer comparisons are these:

Shocking Transformation (cost 3 Shub event): likewise involves a character sacrifice, and can target any faction for the new card, getting it into play, not just into hand. Restricted, though.

Maria Suleman (cost 3 Shub character), who likewise puts old Lavinny in the shade by targeting all factions, is a better character for icons and skill, and can potentially reuse her ability, even if it does take a turn to get to her first activation. Still, as both Lavinia and Maria are unique characters, you might want to include both in a deck that itches for a cross-faction tutoring effect. I have done so.

When I read this card yesterday I read the db text "search your deck for a Yog-Sothoth or Cthulhu", and missed the word "character". And I thought that was a pretty specific and useless ability. But, since you can actually get any character of those factions, she it is credible cross-faction tutor.

I think Carthoris is right about Maria being a better comparison, and unless you're planning on fetching Ancient Ones, Maria seems a better card too.
