IMO, this card goes from being garbage to an automatic "3 of" in any deck that makes extensive use of Josef Meiger. Your opponent has a choice: either let you keep the artifacts and rituals you're tutoring directly into play, or give you massive card advantage by killing Meiger. Either way, you're happy.
Your opponent's only chance? He'd better be able to kill Meiger quickly.
I've been meaning to ask about the combo I referenced above. Obviously, Meiger basically takes all of your Artifacts and Rituals with him when he leaves play. So, seeing as how Artifact of the Lost Cities is itself an Artifact, it would be destroyed as well. Does that prevent its Response from being allowed to trigger? I assume not, but maybe the fact that it too is being destroyed along with its "host artifact" means it can't give me 3 cards on the way out. Thoughts? This is actually a pretty big part of a deck that I have, so insight would be much appreciated. Thanks.
So, I am not immediately certain, but I would expect that to work.
If some card is destroyed, then its attachments also leave play. This attachment's response is clearly designed and intended to work in the situation where the card it is attached to gets destroyed, even though this card dies too, and must by timing rules be in the discard-pile well before the response could possibly trigger.
There is a very badly worded rule in the FAQ that allows for this, but even without it this part would fall under the golden rule.
It is my recollection, though I can't immediate find a reference, that if you have several things destroyed at once, you get to choose the order (which rarely matters). But if you choose the thing Lost Cities is on before choosing Lost Cities, then it gets a second leave play effect pending on it, and more importantly I think it's trigger condition has been satisfactorily met, and it can then resolve from the discard pile as usual.
