Is there any rule that says you can't write down the 10 cards on a piece of paper? There's enough going on between board, hand, and discard pile, it seems unreasonable to expect a player to also memorize the order of the next 10 cards.
There may be a tournament rule for that (I don't recall it, but there certain are in some games) but I don't think there is a game rule preventing you writing stuff down. And since we don't play tournaments much anymore, I would say go for it!
Yeah, I guess it depends on the tournament but also the opponent. I can imagine some players whining about it if they thought it would help their chances of winning. I guess the house would have to make a ruling in that case, and my guess is they'd side with the guy who is making the complaint.
