Insane character has no toughness nor invulnerability so he will probably be destroyed. Nice against lunatics.
I don't think it works against stuff like Things in the Ground (SoA) as the characters are put into play (already) insane, rather than go insane or become insane.

Has anyone tried this when combined with Insanity causing effects in an Agency-Hastur deck? Make their good characters go insane, then wound them?

Yes, the deck was very slow though. Maybe I should revise it with the new agency box.
