(Burglar Tools miss this info, too.)
but i'd like to know the official interpretation
Anyone asked designers about this one?
You shuffle the deck.

Could we clear this last post up? It's leaving things very much unfinished for someone to use these comments as a guide. I don't see how he can perpetually look for a support card until he finds one. That is not how I interpret the text. I interpret it like this:
'Search the top 5 cards of his deck for a support card. If you don't find one, bad luck, nothing happens except he shuffles the deck and you don't get a mark for fated, because you didn't fulfill getting a support to put under your control.'
I don't think that's wat jasoncolon was on about, more like: If you have 20 *different chances/instances* to use his response, and you don't find a single support card, you don't have to put a success token on him and thus can use him "ad infinitum". It's not about using the same triggering condition to use his ability until he's successful.
So can we all agree that if you do not find a support card, you do not get a mark for 'fated'?
Right. The critical word is "Then." He only gets a token if all of the foregoing language is fulfilled.
