Is it possible to switch a non-printed ability that was gained through an item or another characters effect?
For example, if my watcher of signs has 1 investigation symbol that was gained through controlling only cthulhu cards, would i be able to select that?

Yes. Note that Horrific Statuette does not say that you must select "Printed icons". Therefore, any icons that cultist has is fair game for this effect.
