A very nice combo with calculated mutation.
I chose this for CotD on 7th July 2015, as I'm always interested in additional struggles on characters, as whilst they are more vulnerable than an attachment, the flexibility of being able to go into stories whilst also adding skill and their own icons is great.
He doesn't have icons for his additional struggles, but they are common for Cthulhu, which means he should rarely be on the wrong side of them (and if he is, he can be picked and thus take them away). But the fact he is also Fast means that even if you can only tie on icons you will win. Finally, his 3 Arcane means you have a strong chance of winning and readying someone, or preventing one of theirs.
I've not used him (not played with Cthulhu faction since he was released), but I will look at him the next time I do. Would love to know if others have used him and how he did
This guy might go into my Hastur/Cthulhu deck once the Hastur deluxe set is out. These two factions have lots of cards that can add Terror struggles - which will then translate into additional success tokens...
In my opinion, Ian Hardaway is screaming to go into a Shub/Cthulhu dual-faction deck. Shub is desperate for Terror and Combat icon boosters, as it has a serious scarcity of in-faction options in this regard. Insert Ian Hardaway, who is desperate to be teamed up with a bunch of scary, dangerous friends.
The 3 Arcane icons he brings fill a gaping hole in a mostly-Shub deck, and Fast is welcome in any deck.
I am always worried about cards that bring extra struggles without bringing the icons to match since there is a lot of directed removal out there. But if things turn on you post-commit but pre-struggle, you can always apply the first Terror loss to this guy, and then the extra Terror and Combat struggles won't happen (or if needs be, apply the first Combat loss to him, to save taking two combat losses.)
