It has a real problem with card disadvantage.
You lose this card and a character to put a new character into play from your hand. So you are down two cards compared to just playing that character naturally. Also, the new character has to be a Serpent, so it's likely 3-4 cost character of modest quality.
The slight acceleration you might get from this isn't worth two cards early and isn't useful later on. If your deck has some reliable way to borrow opposing characters then it might be worth playing, but usually it's a joke.
