Deck Name: | On second thought, let's not go to Dragonstone |
Deck Contents: | Total Cards (60) House (1) House Baratheon (Core) x1 Agenda (1) Knights of the Realm (KotStorm) x1 Plot (7) Mutual Blackmail (Core) x1 Fury of the Stag (AE) x1 Building Season (Core) x1 Take Them by Surprise (LoW) x1 Battle of Oxcross (PotS) x1 Lineage and Legacy (KotStorm) x1 Counting Favors (Core) x1 Character (26) Acolyte of the Flame (TWH) x1 Bearer of the Light (KotStorm) x1 Melisandre (RotO) x2 Zealous Collector (CtB) x1 Hedge Knight (KotStorm) x1 King's Champion (AE) x1 Knight of Flowers (Core) x2 Ser Axel Florent (Core) x1 Ser Cortnay Penrose (KotStorm) x1 Ser Davos Seaworth (WLL) x1 Ser Eldon Estermont (MotM) x1 Ser Emmon Cuy (KotStorm) x1 Ser Guyard Morrigen (KotStorm) x1 Ser Parmen Crane (KotStorm) x1 Ser Preston Greenfield (TTotH) x1 The Laughing Storm (GotC) x1 Renly Baratheon (TRS) x2 Robert Baratheon (Core) x2 Stannis Baratheon (KotStorm) x1 Orphaned Recruit (OSaS) x2 The Mad Mouse (MotA) x1 Location (14) Aegon's Garden (Core) x1 Claw Isle (EB) x1 Great Hall (Core) x1 King Robert's Chambers (Core) x1 King Robert's Hammer (TBoBB) x1 Salla's Escort Ship (KotStorm) x1 Seat of Power (WotN) x1 Smuggler's Cove (KotStorm) x1 Storm's End (KotStorm) x1 Stormlands Fiefdoms (KotStorm) x2 The Iron Throne (ASitD) x1 The Searoad (KotStorm) x1 The Roseroad (KotStorm) x1 Attachment (10) Black Amethysts (MotM) x1 Bodyguard (Core) x1 Condemned (TBC) x1 Court Advisor (PotS) x1 Enemy to the Crown (ODG) x1 Formal Petition (PotS) x1 Jousting Steed (TTotH) x1 Knighted (KotStorm) x2 Lightbringer (Core) x1 Event (10) Dark Prophecy (KotStorm) x1 Direct Assault (KotStorm) x1 King Robert's Debt (OSaS) x1 Obey the King (KotStorm) x1 Gossip and Lies (OSaS) x1 Whispers from the Hill (ASoSilence) x1 Support of the Kingdom (Core) x1 Superior Claim (KotStorm) x1 Starve for Your King! (BoRF) x1 Make an Example (PotS) x1 The idea is, of course, to get as much power as possible onto your characters, reduce the amount of power needed to win the game, and claim as much power as possible every phase.\n\nThis aims at being a very quick win - stealing power wherever possible, gaining additional power, drawing extra cards. As a result, I have included a lot of high-gold and high initiative plot cards, plus the agenda - that way, you can grab what you can as early as possible. Please let me know what you think of this - I haven't been able to play with this deck yet, but I hope to shortly after buying the Kings of the Storm set. If anyone knows how this would go down in practice, I'd like to hear your thoughts! |

- Other than Melisandre, the presence of Asshai cards seem like they belong in a different deck, almost. It might be worth ditching Acolyte, Bearer, Zealous Collector and Black Amethysts and putting in more cards that fit the Knight theme, or the general power rush theme.
- The Knight theme seems like it needs expanding upon. There are plenty of Knights in the deck and a couple of cards that work off them (the Agenda card obviously, plus Jousting Steed), but for the most part the synergy is wasted. Cards such as Tourney for the Hand, You Swore an Oath and Muster seem ready-made to slot into the deck.
- A couple of cards seem like they might be the wrong version, though I might be overlooking something about them. I'm specifically thinking of Stannis, where the KotS version used clashes with your Renly and also goes against the "Draw" aspect of some of your other cards (Court Advisor, King Robert's Debt, Whispers From The Hill, Renly again) and you therefore might prefer the Core version which can help with your cards requiring you to win Unopposed, and also of Knight of Flowers, as due to the high cost nature of the deck you might not want a 3 gold character who you intend to stand the whole time (particularly when you're winning Dominance anyway thanks to the Iron Throne) when you could instead go with the Tourney for the Hand version who for one more gold has a power icon, another way of gaining Power that could potentially be more efficient, the Joust ability, and the Baratheon house-affiliation and Lord trait which plays into some of your characters who give boosts to Baratheon Lords.
- Given that you should be drawing 3 cards a turn anyway, I wouldn't want to include Counting Favours because it just allows them to have options to oppose you.
- This is probably obvious, but Valar is a major threat and there's not that much defence here against it. I'd definitely make room for Narrow Escape, possibly other approaches too, and also include some counters for Valar itself - The Art of Seduction springs to mind; play it on the turn you expect Valar and either the opponent is stuck with low gold and 0 claim for two turns which allows you to rebuild your position and start the power rush again, or the opponent doesn't play Valar and you have an extra turn to get the victory before they can do anything to stop you.
Hope this helps, I'm new to critiquing so let me know if anything is wrong/stupid!
- More knights would certainly not be a bad thing, condsidering the agenda. Maybe extra copies of the cheap ones like Hedge Knight in case an opponent also has a few knights threatening to turn my agenda against me? Maybe also if I included another copy of Knighted I could include a few more neutral characters...
- You're totally right, that is the wrong Stannis. I intended Renly to be the only King character (my favourite Baratheon AND a nice fit for this deck!). Core Stannis is more appropriate. I see your point about Loras - if I manage to get Iron Throne out, then he becomes pretty redundant.
- Fair point. Maybe I should include summing season instead to grab a knight (if my agenda isn't working for me) while only giving my opponent a chance to grab a single character? Or, as you rightly mention, Art of Seduction (or both, considering I don't have or have any realistic chance of getting the AE chapter pack for a while). My only fear with Art of Seduction is what happened in our last game - a player used it on me when I had a high gold, high int card out, pretty much giving me the boost I needed to win. If I am playing joust, I run the risk of seducing a card that may harm me... Guess I just have to risk it for a biscuit!
Thanks very much for your help, it's been spot on (from what I can tell!)
