Hey man, I played with you yesterday on tradecardsonline.com (I'm the guy you taught how to use the software) :D

Very strong deck, the initial combo Counting Favors+Rule by Decree destroyed my hand. Mono Viper becomes really handy especially with Lost Oasis.

Maybe you need a bit more draw?

Martell Maesters usually has a bit more renown to try and close the game out fast so that a control deck can't just lock you out. To that, I'd probably drop the emissary, manwoody, and probably the weapon subtheme in favor of solid renown dudes like former champion, oakheart, Harmen Ueller, etc. 3 He calls it thinkings would also provide a bit of firepower in a control matchup. Also, the random 1 of apprentice collar seems a pretty bad draw.

I think he tried the weapon subtheme to differentiate his deck from many other maesters deck, it's not bd at all IMHO :)

That may be the case, but he posted here asking for comments and it is the weakest part of the deck.

That's just mean!

The weapon sub-theme is definitely an interesting approach. I do agree with Shadow though that you might want more renown characters to close the game on the TtS turn.

With only 1x of Lost Oasis, how often do you find the steel link to be very useful?

I do appreciate all the feedback actually. I do enjoy the weapon theme with added strength. It really has helped because it helps me take characters off the board with no valar and no 2 claims it gives me a fighting chance with deadly. I do see the need for more renown. I will probably drop dagos, he was a concept I wanted to see because of vengeful and melee and with dornish chariot he prevents rush decks from getting any rush at all. I tried this with Maester of the sun, but enslaved is from the devil and ruined my life once. True story. Needed rehab.

Also steel link is a good point. When I built the deck at first I had more of Lost oasis, but I had to settle and drop 2. I usually try to keep one less character in than my opponent and give it to viper. I probably can trade that.

I love apprentice collar to give to Arianne Martell, or Dagos, or Viper. It either gives Leyton the ability to protect them, or it gives them a military icon from Maester of War or just the added strength is nice. I also like to pull some links back to my hand from discard and I can then attach them to my new maester character I have. I also know viper gets none of the benefits of leyton and maester of war btw. Sometimes the added strength also prevents him from being burned as easily through attachments. Anyway...

I am looking for renown characters that would keep the flow going. I have 6 now, but I know I need more. I'll probably be updating soon.

Love the style and theme of the deck. Does seem slightly familiar ;)

In terms of adding more renown, the problem is finding characters with it. They are all 3+ cost, and not all fit the deck. One thought I had was what about adding more uniques, and then Longclaw (ASitD)? Giving you renown, and getting the benefit of Alchemist's Shop on top.

What about The Citadel of Oldtown (GotC)? A way to save your Maesters is never bad, and with Apprentice Collar on a non-maester, goves you a way to save them too. Keep bouncing Refugees, as ultimate claim fodder ;)

I don't know what you mean "fit the deck". If you mean "they're not maesters" then you're entirely correct, but that's life. The martell maester decks that have been successful are the ones that can win on the to the spears turn (or, at latest, the outwit turn) and they do that by rushing with renown. They're a rush deck with a control aspect, and they're good at what they do. That's why they were the deck everyone was afraid of going into Gencon.

3 gold for a 3 strength bicon with renown, even with no other factors, is a pretty good deal. Former Champion, lady stoneheart, even Beric, all have the potential to accelerate you to a win.
