I remember how seminal an old Full Tilt article on this budget build was to me. A recent post by Icarus prompted me to post this (one of many decks saved) as I felt there was some deviation in approach, mainly in plots (as most builds are 80% similar at least). I would have posted on his thread but got the impression that is poor etiquette? Also because I didn't want to directly challenge his build as he has been very helpful in other threads. Dothraki is suddenly in flavour (and may return to its tier 1.5 heights during TLV) because Refugees and Retaliation no longer restricted. It also takes advantage of Control restrictions like Westeros Bleeds, Bungled Orders etc. I dislike the build because it's so mono and uses the top 5 cards mechanic too much. However, one can't deny it's good at what it does. As a Control player, I insist on Control touches: Summoned by the Conclave to get a Jhogo dupe usually, or other unique dependent on match-up. Forgotten Plans for countering Control plots like Shadows and Spiders, Dry Season etc. Rule by Decree and Aegon's Hill against Control. Alleras, supported by Retaliation, can often be useful. This is the event light variant. 11 war crests (inc. Blackfyre & Tarly) support 3 Phalanxes + 2 Power of Arms 7 influence support 3 Incinerate. 25 Dothraki support Vanguard, Drogo's Horde, Incinerate 21 Dothraki cost 3+ support Braided Screamers That latter issue causes the build to be medium tempo Aggro with only c.4 card set-ups (poor for Aggro) but this is offset by greater draw and card quality for more sustained Aggro pressure. This trades Die By The Sword and Price of War for repeatable effects (3 Meraxes, 3 Jhogo duped via Conclave, Vaes Dothrak, Aegon's Hill, Womb for Valar recovery). Meraxes supports Refugees and Womb, give 1 card needed for Negotiations. Flea Bottom supports sufficient cards (Vanguards, Crones and almost all the uniques) to warrant its inclusion and provokes opponent to a premature Valar, which is what the deck wants. Dothraki's appeal is significant card draw for Aggro (Braided Screamers, Vanguard, Drogo, Jhogo, Meraxes, Vaes Dothrak, Womb). Duping Jhogo using Conclave seems potentially game winning depending on match-up. The deck has several pumps (2x Power of Arms, Dany, Blackfyre + Tarly) so it should have a good game against burn (the match-up that can deal with duped Jhogo best). New Viserys will make attachments even scarcer hence I skipped on Griff as he could shut down Alleras or Conclave. However his claim soak (that bypasses Crone) may mean he is a better choice than Alleras, especially with Seasons returning but this s a meta-call. Finally, no reset! Is this a mistake? I don't believe an all-out Aggro build (which this is despite some anti-Control tech) should have the safety net as it either works or doesn't. Rush will always have its Art of Seduction and Forgotten Plans (on To The Spears, Power of Faith etc) disrupt all-or-nothing rush. Meantime, 2-claim plots cull opponents and Incinerate for targeted removal. Often, having forced a Valar, the opponent defends waiting for your turn 7 Valar - that never arrives. So is having no reset a mistake? Dothraki is a very deja vu build. But I suspect FAQ 5.0 should return it to its TLV heyday... As usual, feedback more than welcome. |
