Instead of trying to grab a huge amount of power with some combo, you're steamrolling power through renown and UO, meanwhile incentivizing your opponents into not attacking you (Meraxes, a standing Barristan with Court Advisor, looming presence of Burn, Knights not kneeling to defend, Loyalty Money Can Buy). As finishers the deck uses a self-concocted mix of 'surprise' power gain from Ride Them Down and printed renown, unopposed from burning down defenders or stealth and finally stealing power-laden characters with Ward. In most of the games that I won with the deck, I used Threat from the North as my finisher, so that I would have easy access to grabbing renown characters with Ward, and stopping opponents from trying to win (by Incinerating them down mid-attack). There are some quirky interactions in the deck, so it takes a bit of time getting used to. A good example is Ride Them Down, which in addition to it's obvious usage also acts as excellent fuel for making Barristan's power-challenges unopposed by burning away defenders, only to return back to hand afterwards. My semi-final table ended with me stealing a Melissandre (DotN) and leveraging her ability and renown to hit 15 power. Now *that* was what I call fun. Long Lances were money all day long, that card is just bonkers good. |
