I like that this isn't restricted to characters you control. You could, conceivably, use it to buff an opponent's character if you wanted to force a challenge loss. There are a number of reactions which don't require you to lose as the defender: Boneway, Elia Sand, Long Plan, Caleotte etc. So if your Boneway is on 5, and you're creeping close to the winning line with an opponent playing safe, this card could force that vital lost challenge...

I like the way you think. BUT, given this specific scenario and you are one loss before the win (Boneway 5), why should your opponent want to attack you if he expects to loose the challenge? Because he also plays Martell and is one loss before win and hence wants to loose himself? If not, why should he attack you then? You will loose anyway as you could go unopposed. Or would he win then because of unopposed and you have to defend but you only have this one character with higher strength that he expects you to defend and then you suddenly pump HIS character to not go undefended and then still loose the challenge?
Do I miss something? ;)

Edit: yes, I do, you attack and he wants to loose! Cool!

What you're missing is that in my scenario I'm the attacking player. I initiate a challenge with somebody inconspicuous - let's say a Palace Spearman. They oppose with a chud. I boost their STR with this card and so lose the challenge, then trigger the Boneway.

Or you can just use the Dornish Paramour to control who blocks you so you can loose if you want.

Btw Prince's Plan could be davastating when used with Roose Bolton.

This card works really well with the Paramour. If it weren't loyal you could have had a lot of fun in Targ Sun enticing characters to fiery deaths...On the flip side this does protect you against burn - if used before the challenge Dracarys! isn't killing you. If as 1st player you use it in marshalling then you are protected from Crown (much more niche usage of course).

As it is, early game you can limit the damage big characters do to you, late game you can "kneel" an important character and win the challenge on top, or make them commit a second character on top to win.

The Red Viper is an obvious target (remember that pump itself will double if combined with YMHC).

Giving Caleotte a military icon is a strong play early on (less so later as the str pump may make you actually win the challenge...)

The Spearmaiden may not want the icon, but being able to trigger by herself is good enough.

Outside of house, Roose has already been mentioned. Standy Randy, Mirri, and Jaqen all stick out as strong targets for this also.

One of my favorite Martell cards and a seemingly innocent one at that but as VonWibble has pointed out, it has so many good effects that can push through challenges without the opponent knowing or to keep them guessing etc. I also really like the "push the enemy attack" through so you can lose a challenge - that is one side I didn't really look at it!!!

I know Tyene isn't so fashionable right now given how we can't protect her too well, aside from dupes, but even she could be formidable with a correctly timed Princes Plan. It isn't a winning combo but for those of us that still play her (I did some Melee with her lately and she is still a great card, just a shame Valar had such a big impact on her)

I think however the best combo is Paramour, just a great option that could be game winning IMO and shuts some massively important characters down - however it may make us want to go first a bit more hah!
