Not sure why would you ever play this instead of Ghaston... Maybe if you play Banner of the Sun and you can't play Ghaston, or if you need more of Ghaston...
i will 100% be playing both.
Because this still works even if your opponent's best character doesn't attack, and isn't vulnerable to location hate?
Those arguments are valid, but I still think Ghaston has advantage over this. Cheaper, becomes immediate threat to opponent, not vulnerable to attachment removal, and you won't be attaching this to any* NW character... Having said this, I'll definitely test the hell out of it, and I do think it has a spot in certain decks, as an addition to Ghaston.
Oh boy it's non loyal, you can bet this is going into every banner of the sun deck. Very vulnerable to Confiscation so I expect people will combo it with Naval Superiority.
I agree with Nikola, I like Ghaston a lot more and I don't think this card is very good. Let's play a little game i like to play, I always assume the best outcome and see the payoffs
(RIP show Littlefinger). In a dream scenario your opponent doesn't have confiscation or attachment removal or like Iron Bank event in the plot phase for Condemned character to not lose any gold. When that happens we can trigger this attachment, and then our opponent can just replay that character in that marshaling phase if he has decent economy and all non terminal attachments he had on it like bodyguard. In my opinion that's not much of a payoff for a 3 gold attachment, especially with all the "if's" you need to pass to get there. Tempo-wise, we made him lose like 6 or 7 gold to replay a character, but we lost 3 ourselves and a card, we lost on tempo in the round we played this attachment as it did nothing, and most of the time we only did it after we knew opponent had no counters, after he used confiscation on milk of the poppy for example, so we potentially lost on tempo on earlier turn as well because we kept a "dead" card until we knew there were no counters(while Ghaston can be played immediately and on setup), so you can gain tempo win on the following turn after you play this, which is like 3 or 4 gold on-a-one-turn-delay tempo win, which is good but nothing spectacular, as people nowadays don't even want to swarm the board with characters, so unless a character had a lot of power on it and you somehow haven't lost on the turn you played this attachment, that payoff does not sound good for me, it's even worse than Ghaston when you realize you cant combo it with His Viper Eyes or Heads on spikes, basically you cant combo it with anything, and control-wise since your opponent can replay the character, in a long run it doesn't matter, so its not a good control card as well. With new Valar Dohaeris plot arriving, which i have no doubt a lot of Martell decks will play, the card provides a counter synergy with that plot, as the plot will happen before this reaction, and it also doesn't have synergy with Valar Morghulis.
There is another point of view how to see this card - not only as a straightforward "Ghaston alt". I think it fits Martell style, as slowly moving pieces on board until achieved a certain position and then strike to finish the game.
The reaction is optional, so you can leave the character attached in the game and return it when it fits you best. Opponent won't play any dupes, any attachments on it, any renown is useless as it can be returned in next round.
Also you can see how much gold your opponent can generate on that round so you can return it when it wouldn't be possible to play it back. 7 costers are pain to marshal unless high gold plot or Great Hall.
This card is probably better than Ghaston in a Lanni heavy meta. If Ghaston gets treacheried it is gone, if this gets treacheried it still tries to fire on the next turn.
