If you Nightmares this guy, does the character he's controlling come back under your control?

Also, if the character your opponent controls is kills and you save it, is the character still controlled by your opponent?

1. Recruiter creates a "Lasting Effect" - Until he stands or leaves play. This defines, that he has to stand or leave play in order to return the controlled character back to the owner. If you somehow blank his text during the Standing phase - he will stand automatically during the Standing phase. However - Nightmares is an Action and lasts only until the end of the phase. That means that Nightmares would do nothing as the sequence of Standing phase is:

6.1 Standing phase begins

6.2 Stand each kneeling card

6.3 ACTION Window ... only here you can play Nightmares. But at that point it is too late to effect standing.

You can however use Milk on him, or other means to stand him (f.e.Power Behind the Throne). Or just kill the bugger.

2. Even saved, it will remain under the control of the Recruiter. Your only options are:

- to stand the Recruiter,

- to force the Recruiter to leave a play

- or use other effect which will takes control of that character (f.e. your own Recruiter).

Blanking the Recruiter's text box (via Milk of the Poppy or Nightmares) will not immediately revert control of affected character (lasting effect created by the ability exists independently of its source).

If you save a character, he is not killed and does not keave play, so any "until he leaves play" effects would not expire.

To explain Milk: it will not revert control o.c. I meant it will cause Recruiter to stand in Standing phase -> thus reverting control.

Now looking at the text of the Recruiter, is the part "...leaves play." of "Take control of that character until Recruiter for the Watch stands or leaves play." related to the Recruiter or the character being controlled by the Recruiter? I understand it is regarding the Recruiter, otherwise it would not make much consistence.

Another question about this guy: if someone plays Ward on him, does the controlled character go with him to the Stark player's side?

No. Lasting effects exist independently from their sources of origination. Blanking or taking control of the Recruiter will not affect the already exisiting lasting effect.
