I actually put this in a few decks that really require challenges (Targ and GJ) specifically to tech against Baratheon. In a card pool this small, silver bullet cards like this are pretty good.
This card is great if your deck relies primarily on events, location and attachment abilities, especially if your opponent's relies primarily on character abilities.
Here is a question, if you use this could you then do something like use milk on a card that states no attachments. If it makes it possible then when you pick new plots wouldn't milk stay on since it keeps the text box blank.
Yup, if you you Milk a no-attachments character on a fortified position turn, the character will stay blanked thereafter due to Milk's constant effect (so milk won't fall off).

I don't fully understand your question, but if you're asking: "If Benjen dies while fortified position is active, is he able to trigger his interrupt?" The answer is, no he is not because his text box is blank and thus you cannot trigger his ability.
He would be blank. So if he is killed, you can't trigger his ability.
No. Cards don't interact with cards that are out of play unless they specifically say that they do. Cards in your hand are not in play, so they are not affected by Fortified Position.
Doest he gold value on a character count as part of the text box that is being blanked?
If you mean gold modifier (+2 on Tywin, etc.) than yes.
Can "Desert Raider" be triggered from deadpile when the plot is active?
This card's ability does not affect cards in the Dead Pile.
