Greyjoy chooses his stealth characters against an opponent without stealth. Hello, unopposed challenges!

Greyjoy chooses his stealth characters against an opponent without stealth. Hello, unopposed challenges!

I think you are confusing how this works. You can make a challenge with any character but only a single character and the same applies for defending. So the Greyjoy attacks with their single stealth character and chooses one of the opponent's characters who cannot defend. That player then chooses some other character and uses it as their one character they declare as a defender.  (Although the plot is great for Tyrell)

Inconceivable!

Agree with Apophenia, Stealth would allow the Gj player to choose someone who could not defend, but that would not prevent someone else from being able to be declared as a defender.  If you choose a target for Stealth who is the only viable defender with the appropriate challenge icon, then you would win an unopposed challenge.

Also this plot will favour factions that can pump strength for challenges (Tyrell & Greyjoy) or even Martell who will want to lose challenges to trigger effects.

Interestingly it is just as good when played defensively as the second player because you force your opponent to pick and choose and in doing so telegraph their challenges so you get better economy out of your events for cancels.

Looking forward to seeing more characters with 'Joust' and 'Melee' traits so this isn't just limited to a plot effect.

Joust and Melee traits?  Are you hoping those first edition keywords make a come back?  Is that what you mean?

Yes, I did confuse this a bit. But I think what I was going for was more of Greyjoy initiating attacks with stealth soley against an opponent with no stealth characters. And yes, that would be unopposed normally anyways but this way you can leave your stronger non-stealth characters unnealt to deal with threats from other opponents or to have strength towards dominance this would also keep your locations that buff your characters free to use later if needed.

Bomb - yes.

Aduleon - Stealth is a way to prevent a specific defender getting involved in the challenge, 'Jousting Contest' limits the defenders that can be committed to a challenge to one. If there are two eligible defenders with an appropriate challenge icon and your choice of attacking character has stealth then using stealth to prevent the stronger of the two from being chosen as the single defender which increases your chances of winning the challenge.

You could not however declare stealth from two attackers to prevent both eligible defenders being considered because you could only initiate the attack with one character.

Quick related question - how does this work with Jon Snow.  Is he still considered to be participating in defending challenges if he doesn't need to be declared as participating?

Yup (but not on defence, as his ability only helps him participate when another NW is attacking)
