I know this has been mentioned several times already, but this HAS to be errata'd. Even if it is changed to "Reaction: After YOU initiate an Intrigue challenge, gain 2 gold (limit ONCE per round)", it is still an insanely strong card.
It doesn't need errata-ing. He's a great defence against Intrigue challenges out-of-faction. He's just bonkers in Lannister! Get your Milk of the Poppy/Tears of Lys ready!
He can't be targeted by Lys so he needs to be shown a sword or something worse.
Good point. Still - he's a card that needs answers, not errata.
Play a few games with him before you start calling for errata. Considering the timing of getting that gold, his ability doesn't help you marshal anything. It only helps you play events and win dominance. Very, very good? Yes. Over-powered to the point of needing errata? Probably not.
He does seem VERY powerfull. more so when some expensive powefull events show up in the card pool that can be played during the challange phase or later in the round.
Tyrion is a card that gives a faction flavor. Unless playing Tyrion is the only winning strategy, and it remains the only winning strategy we shouldn't be calling for errata. Especially if the game hasn't been played extensively on a competitive level.
It's Tyrion! He's like, in the top three of all character in the whole series. He's gotta be good.
No Errata necessary. If he could gain that gold in the Marshaling phase, that would be a problem. But confining his "gold rush" to the challenges phase is very Nedly. Perfect.
I hope I'm wrong. And when I talked about errata, I didn't necessarily mean right now, just that I felt it would be inevitable as the card pool grows. But of course I could be wrong.
No errata will be necessary once other houses get some better characters.
Best Character out of core, possibly. Needs to be errata'd? No, I don't think so. First, it's far to early to even think about such things. Second, it's best to adapt and figure out ways to deal with The Dwarf.
An example of when the card pool grows. Imagine playing this first plot with Tyrion and Casterly Rock on the board.
So... the sky might fall; errata Tyrion now?
No, but it will be interesting to see how interactions like these actually play out once the cards are released.
I can't imagine any kind of balancing errata for at least a couple of years.
I am curious about the timing for Wardens of the West. Will you be able to win an intrigue challenge, gain the gold and then activate this reaction?
It seems like the gold gain and the reaction would trigger at the same time, meaning you would have to save 2 gold from marshalling, or win a second intrigue challenge to trigger this after winning one to get the 2 gold from Tyrion.
Couple mis-conceptions here. First, Tyrion actually triggers off initiating an intrigue challenge - that's long before you win it. But even if he triggered off winning it, you could still pull this off; you control what order your reactions are initiated in. You can always choose to initiate "Olenna's Cunning" before Olenna herself, in order to fetch the right character - and you could choose to react to winning the intrigue by initiating Wardens of the West, in the hopes of discarding a Hand's Judgement, before you initate Tears of Lys. You an initate Lannisport draw (from winning), draw into a Tears of Lys, and then play it.
So even if Tyrion said "after you win an int challenge", you could reliably use that gold to pay for your Wardens trigger.
Right! Thank you for correcting my misconception regarding Tyrion's ability. That's great news about the reactions timing, too. Thanks Istaril. I think Wardens of the West is the plot that will really launch Lanni Intrigue rush in 2ed.
You can stop whining about Tyrion errata now. I'm sure more cards will come that add an element of risk to sitting on a pile of gold during the challenges phase. : P

Yup. Loot has me terrified. I imagine this won't be nearly the last time I say
"I'm worried about this new Greyjoy event."
Loot has ensured that I will likely have 3 copies of The Hand's Judgment in ALL my Lannister decks. EDIT: DEAR LORD Hand's Judgment won't work because they'll have already spent my gold to pay the cost to activate it.... T,T
Well, for 0 gold you'll be able to cancel the discard-from-deck effect... but I doubt that's worth a Hand's Judgement! The beauty of loot is that the main detrimental effect is part of the cost.
The rules reference has the following entry for "Printed" (P16):
The rules reference has the following entry for "The letter "X"" (P23):
This is the only part of the rules reference that mentions the value of X. Also, the phrase "printed cost" does not exist anywhere in the rules reference. That forces us to combine the entries for "Printed Cost" and "The letter X" in order to define the printed cost of a card that has a cost of X. Ergo, this paragraph must be how X is defined as it relates to the rules reference entry for "Printed." As the player is choosing the value of X, that would mean that the "printed cost" of Loot becomes whatever the player chooses. If this were not the case, a player could spend 2 gold to play The Hand's Judgement to cancel a 2 gold event and his opponent could cancel the cancel with his own The Hand's Judgement at a cost of 0 gold. While I don't think an errata is necessary for Tyrion, I do see an entry coming that clearly defines the "printed cost" of a card that has a cost of "X". I'm kind of surprised that this discussion never came up on the card page for The Hand's Judgement.Edit: I was wrong.
The second cancel is free.
It has come up, in excruciating detail, in the rules forum for Hand's Judgment canceling Hand's Judgment and/or Things I do for Love. I wouldn't expect to see an FAQ entry that clearly defines printed cost for X (it's already there as you so aptly quote). Maybe an actual "frequently ask question," which tend to be more about applying the rules that exist instead of adding or clarifying something that isn't actually there.
