3 gold plus unique seems pretty harsh for this card. Even if you equate stealing a gold with being worth 1 gold as well, you're looking at 2 rounds for this to turn a profit, 3 if you're not first player on the turn you marshall it. I'm glad that choke isn't being given amazing cards like it got in first edition, but NW could have stood to get a slightly stronger version here. 2 cost would seem more appropriate for a unique location.
Profit is only part of the reason to run this considering it steals gold from the opponent.
Gold usually left for events so no big harm done. Gold curve is higher in 2ED, 1 gold behind does not impress most decks.
Captain Daugther is a choke tool, Lordsport Shipwrigth is a choke tool. With present gold curve -1G is not a choke tool. Deal with it.
It is when you have multiple choke tools in the same deck.
I wouldn't dismiss it just yet.
White tree + Meager Contribution = 2 cards and 3 gold for a +2/-2 4 gold spread.
I'd call that a choke tool.
I liked Night's Watch from the beginning. This is finally another reason to play the deck more.
White Tree vs. A Meager Contribution, how do we do the math for this one? The event costs 0 gold and does the same thing, i am more inclined to keep the event than playing this 3-gold location.
It isn't so much a math thing as an availability thing.
With the Whitetree, you get it every turn. So you need to find a single copy and you'll get to use it until the end of the game.
With the event, you can only play it one time per copy you draw and then it can also be cancelled. In addition, I've had games (a long time ago, because I haven't run Meager in over 6 months) where I needed the extra gold during marshalling but had to go first, so I just saved the event for the next turn.
With the Whitetree, you don't have to worry about the impact on any given turn. You just play it.
When it comes to deck slots, which are at an all time premium, I'd rather have a recurring ability than a one time ability any day, even if it does cost me 3 gold for one turn.
can you bounce the veteran builder of this to kneel the tree take a gold, then sacrifice a builder to stand the tree again to kneel the tree again to take more gold and repeat for as many veteran builders you have in play, to take between 2-4 of someone before they have marshalled
No. The White Tree is a reaction to counting income, Veteran Builder is an action. By the time you've moved to an action window after counting income, it's too late. That's reason1. Reason 2 is that since it's a reaction to your opponent collecting income (which only happens once), it can only trigger once to that - even if it's somehow made to stand again by an interrupt or reaction.
Good point!
