That wind-swept garment makes her look like a centaur.
Great combo with Put To The Sword, killing off a duped character.
Repeatable Tears (aka Tyene) has already been shown to be a very strong card, and it shouldn't come as a surprise that a quasi repeatable Put to the Sword effect is also strong. Martell can very easily play a military heavy game if they want to, mostly due to Imprisoned. While she isn't a Sandsnake she is only 5 cost (compared to Tyene), which means you can bounce her in with Arianne.
I officialy hate Martells now. So what's next - character imitating Superior Claim? Thi card is poorly designed , it is powerfull and shity at the same time.
Kinda already do.... TRV
As a Martell player, I can see why you hate Martell
BUT
Isn't this a similar effect as "The seastone chair"? I didn't play that much against GJ but my feeling is that it is easier to trigger the Chair for GJ then the Spearmaiden for Martell. Also PTTS is more easy to trigger for GJ then for Martell. So why not hate GJ?
OK, Martell now has nasty ways for intrigue AND military. AND is has some other nasty things. But maybe some of the better players could comment on my GJ objection.
It's like deadly, but not.
If she just had str 5 to work by herself...
In a Martell Summer deck she'll be easier to trigger by herself, as you'll likely run 2x A Song of Summer. Maybe Martell Rose with Marg...
She's a go-second card who needs support to be effective: Nym, Arianne, Imprisoned, big military presence (e.g. buffed Viper, Jaime, Gregor).
i'm gonna love seeing this card hit the table.
Oh, what's that? You want to overcommit on military?
I hope you don't mind when people watch over you from atop a Wall.
Still Joe, she's good vs everyone else eh.
I do not think this is a good character, I don't like overcommiting on challenges. And as Joe said, she ensures you'll lose quickly against NW. She won't be any better when more Ally hate arrives.
I feel like losing this to Watchers is still far less impactful than losing a couple of unique Renown characters (Mountain, Jaime etc). In fact most Martell decks will often be using non uniques (this, Knights of the Sun, Palace Spearmen etc) for most of their military characters, so I don't feel like it hurts that badly. As always you need to be careful with the Viper and Nymeria, but that applies on any challenge.
If loosing 9 gold (maiden + one of the armies) does not hurt I do not know what does.
In fact, I wonder whether the more astute NW players would even be tempted at all into squandering such a powerful effect on non-uniques... Me, I'd be waiting for my opponent to take a greater risk with a more valuable character.
From the Martell player's perspective, it's part of the mind games if you've built a deck less reliant on Big Beef. (And let's face it, in the impending post-Valar world, Big Beef isn't going to be as important as it has been up to now...) If my non-uniques fall to Watchers, I have others to replace them.
Of course it still hurts, in fact it should still usually lose you the game if the NW play knows what they are doing (unless you have an immediate counterplay lined up, like Vengeance/Ghaston to restablise the board). However it still hurts less than losing actual big bomb characters (anything in the 5+ gold range with Renown), both because its probably less gold overall, but also because Martell aren't usually relying on pushing to 15 on the back of these renown characters in the first place.
Oh, I think there may still be reasons to groan once Spearmaiden makes some decks, despite her drawbacks. In any attrition-based Martell deck she'll simply become another source of misery. Scenarios involving Martell going second with Nym, Imprisoned, Arianne, Hotah, buffed Viper, Gregor, Jaime, etc. etc. will abound - and I look forward to making them happen!
I had a taste of this last night. Tested my new Lannister-Rains deck against my friends Martell-Banner-of-the-Stag deck. I went 1-4 without having especially bad draw. Mel kneeling my tywin, Nymeria demilitarizing my best standing mil char and when eric storm stealthing my second best. I needed all my treatcherys and nightmares to hold the line for a few more rounds, while Ghaston grey prevents any meaningful counterattacks. This chard is really strong you do not need too much overcommitment when you stripe away your enemys military + Martell has an overcomittment theme with cards like oberin.
I've managed to use her quite effectively in a stealth heavy deck and it was quite nasty, especially combined with PttS, but if you don't get the pieces out quick the deck fell down quick.
I think in a big control deck you could fit 1x and she could hurt if you had Nym, some Imprisioned out etc. Shes a non-unique whose presence can be quite hard to ignore if the Martell player has the right amount of mil control, which shouldn't be massively tough to do. She's also great with Battle of Oxcross!
