This is one of the cards I'm most excited for. I'm thinking of a Tyrell Kraken renown/unopposed rush deck, with three of these to save any character as needed.

Can I save an opponents characters with this card, to stop their death effects? Like viserys, quentyn, Banjen if i was desperate and needed them not to die?

you could say just dont do the military but what if i was gaining a lot off other things from rise of the kraken UO challenges etc to help me push for the win and needed to do a Mil (or LoTC).

Sure, you definitely can.

I don't really understand the theme of this card. Why does sacrificing the mine save a card?

Are you paying a ransom?

Did anyone ever need the Support of the People to find himself sitting on the Iron Throne?

When was ever a time that the Hand of the King prevented a dragon from crisping anything on its path?

You 're putting too much thought into it.

best thing i can think of is that the ironborn lords didn't have to work mines so they didn't die?

Yeah, but, the Support of the People could thematicly put someone on the throne.

Besides, that's not really my point. I don't expect every card to make perfect, or even adequate, thematic sense in relation to every other card it could be used in conjunction with. Just that it makes some attempt at connection between it's own theme and mechanisms.

Hey, better than what I came up with. :)

I think they used bond-slaves they captured at raids to work there, no iron-man had to work in there. So not only the lords did not have to work there (although every captain of a boat is considered a lord anyway).

Besides from not dying because they did not work in the mines, it could also be interpreted as getting the iron to build weapons and armory to prevail in battle and not being killed.

Edit: ups, just see that this is exactly what the flavour says...
