Hm at first I thought this is amazing. Then I realized that it is probably only great if you are first player. With Jaime and the Wheelhouse Lannister has solid reasons to go first already, still I do not like to include too many cards that force me to win initiative.

On a turn where the opponent has no gold and you can ambush it in it doesn't matter so much if they go first though. The minute they throw a chud intrigue at you (not uncommon with Crossing currently popular) you are kneeling their best guy.

And imo 1 gold for a kneel is worth it already. Throw in the potential for a second use and it is then above the curve.

The hilarity of using this to pay for your own Tears of Lys will never get old.  I like it in a Bara/Lion deck as an additional kneel effect.

If you look at it as a one-off event, it's still pretty good.  The fact that it sticks around is just icing.

Would have been better if it worked in conjunction with Brothel Madame

But does the attached card stand during standing phase anyway?

In which case you're just giving the other player the ability to double use their best card next round...

Yes, it stands as normal

How so? Why double use?

Because if it's staying on the character, that means NEXT round, they can kneel to attack, pay 1 gold and then attack again...

Your opponent only gets an option to pay 1 to stand attached character if *you* trigger the Reaction ability on Paid Off when you win an intrigue challenge. The ability is optional and you control Paid Off, just don't trigger it if attached character is already kneeling.

It also uses the word "then" which means that the first part of the ability has to be successful before the other part of it can happen (the one after then). If the character is already knelt then nothing happens as the character wasn't succesfully knelt by the ability.

So what are people referring to by it "sticking around" and "second use"?

If you get it back after the character dies?

Also, so that means the other player would have to pay immediately? They couldn't wait till another challenge for example?

You play Paid Off and attach it to your opponent's character. You can either marshal it as normal during the Marshaling phase, or Ambush it in during the Challenges phase.

When you win an intrigue challenge, you can (voluntarily) trigger the Reaction ability on Paid Off to kneel attached character. Then, your opponent can choose to pay you 1 gold (immediately) and stand attached character. So you've either made your opponent give you 1 gold, or you've knelt his character (if he cannot or doesn't want to pay).

This attachment doesn't have the Terminal keyword, so if attached character leaves play (e.g. discarded or killed), Paid Off goes back to your hand, and you can play it again (during Marshaling or Challenges phase).

Cool...

So can you attach it on Bron if he is currently under the other players control?
and if so does the "paid off" attachment remain attached and under your control regardless?

Yes you can attach Paid Off to Bronn under your opponent's control (doesn't matter who owns him).

If you take control of that Bronn, Paid Off will become illegally attached (not to an opponent's character) and will get discarded from play.
