nice with A Clash of Kings.
Can a character have more than one instance of a keyword? Like, could this give a character that already has Renown an additional Renown keyword? And if it did, would Renown trigger twice?
RRG, p. 11:
"Cards are considered to have a keyword or to not have that keyword. A single card that has and/or is gaining the same keyword from multiple sources functions as if it has one instance of that keyword. (Note: Instances of Ambush (X) with different values for X are considered different keywords.)"
What this means is that a single card can have more than one instance of a keyword, but they derive no benefit from the extra instances (other than it taking more "loses a keyword" effects to take it away).
Thanks.
Looked in the Reference but didn't catch that.
I imagine that a card somehow having "Ambush (X)" and "Ambush (Y)" would only be relevant for cards that interact with the value of X or Y. Meaning, I could see a card saying "Action: Pay X to choose a card with Ambush (X) and return it it's owner's hand.". That card could combo well with cards that are discarded from play at the end of the phase they were ambushed in depending on the cost.
It could be relevant for the initial ambush as well. The greyjoy raider gives all weapons Ambush (X) where X is their printed cost. So if you have a card like practice blade that had Ambush (2) you would be able to play it for 1 using the raider.
anybody else find it remarkably un-nedly that you can't attach this to a braided warrior, whose artwork depicts a braided warrior riding into battle on a warhorse, yet the bag of bones that is an old crone will quite happily sit atop?
That's probably a thematic oversight for mechanical balance, but I think an argument can be made that it makes a lot of sense this way.
After all, the Silver is Dany's horse. She's beautiful and noble but not necessarily a warhorse of any great renown (despite the trait). But she's an exceptional specimen--worthy to stride beneath a Khalissi and beside a Khal--and a powerful symbol of Dany's Nobility and grace.
To me that jives with the ability being based around the Power challenge and with the run-of-the-mill warriors not being worthy of riding her. The Old Crone, on the other hand, does have more of a place of power and noble authority than the Braided Warriors (despite the culture's obvious focus on the warriors).
Since it is not a "Forced Reaction" then I can wait to sacrifice the steed until I am ready to make a second power challenge- gaining renown for multiple turns before that sacrifice, right?
Correct! Note that you still have to trigger the reaction (if you choose to do so) immediately after the triggering condition is met - you can't trigger it 2 challenges after having gained power for renown.
