What made you pick Matthew Alexander as a restricted over options such as The Festival or Master of Myths?
What made you pick Matthew Alexander as a restricted over options such as The Festival or Master of Myths?
Ultima Thule seems to be the only activator for Matthew Alexander, if I haven't overlooked anything and as a 2-off without tutoring for it, I wonder, too, if that's really enough to warrant playing him over another restricted option. Not that he is bad in any way, but he's no no-brainer here, might worth to consider other options.
That aside, I will definitely try something along those lines, I really like the combo.
Thanks for the shout out! I like this deck a lot, very cool idea with more investigation and card draw than my version. Frenzied Ghouls was on my short list but had to be cut for space. I'm not sure about Ambushing Ghouls though, I think I'd prefer Albino Goat-Spawn?
The one thing this deck struggles against is invulnerable characters. It's the reason I included Sigil of Doom. It can also set up a little slow as you get the pieces into place, so I took Master of the Myths to stall (and feed Toxemia if needed). Please let us know how well Matthew Alexander works in his place.
Slightly confused here, so hopefully someone can help me out: How does Gibbering Soul fetch Dr. Bancroft?
I used Gibbering Soul to grab Savio first, then either Baka or Jaguar Warrior (to wound or reload my hand, respectively). Jaguar Warrior was quite effective actually as it was guaranteed card draw and board presence on the following turn. For August Lindquist, I just had to draw him which is why I always wanted to see him in my opening hand.
Yeah, Gibbering Soul will obviously not fetch Bancroft. If one would feel really short on tutors for the crucial characters, i.e. Bancroft (although there's enough Toughness at hand to just tank the Toxemia if necessary), Shocking Transformation is a possibility as well (and would, sadly, trigger Matthew Alexander, but no more...).
Ultima Thule is definitely a 'Win More' card, but since I wanted (forced actually) the Explorers, Thule replaces MoM, and replaying Jeremiah Kirby over and over is pretty good. Don't forget, that Alexander triggers when a card LEAVES play too. Which tends to happen a lot. And I am expecting much more often as well, with the loss of the Jumpers causing the format to slow a bit and removal needing to increase.
Right now, I think I'm going to play this at GenCon.
Oh, and Ambushing Ghoul is the poor-man's Black Dog.
Sure, but it still has to be due to a card effect. Simple wounding won't do. But yeah, the increase in removal on opponent's side might be a good meta call after the last FAQ.
