The idea is that every action you do should engineer, in some way, either the spending of opponents resources or straight honor loss. Air ring is THE most important ring, followed by Fire, then Earth, then Void. Water is near useless to this deck, barring getting Adept of the Waves for unopposed and/or Seeker of Knowledge to make it also Air. Way of the Phoenix is air denial, works best when Tsukune is on the board.
Once your opponent knows the gimmick, the best way to play the deck is to engineer difficult choices. Every decision point your opponent makes should be difficult, due to what you are threatening with.
