If you are banking some fate on your first turn, then you could even buy fushicho with fate and send it in, preferably on a political conflict and play Clarity of purpose.

I was a fool for not playing this when it came out. It is just solid throughout the game, both charged or bought. You don't get invested as much in a singular card, which is one of its greatest strengths as neutering a phoenix tower of a character is often how you win against phoenix.

Yep. Also, between water ring and Clarity of Purpose, it's not uncommon to see his big stats boost 2 conflicts in a turn. You gotta live a big beatstick with a great ability.

One thing I would like to add is that Fushicho is also a card that can make the difference in the phoenix mirror, by virtue of not being a shugenja and thus immune to Against the waves.
