Note this is a duel with no participation required, which I think is an absolute first.
Demanding an opposing Shugenja isn't arduous, I think, as it is pretty much mandatory now to carry 3 x Cloud The Mind in today's meta.
The fact that this has no spell trait, plus the obvious synergy makes this a clear gift to those of us who still prefer the original Phoenix stronghold. Which is definitely the gang I'm in.
And ANY ring effect. That is just so damn solid.
My bet is that Fire will be the most common ring effect to take with this card, followed by water and void. Getting an honor/dishonor status with this is neat, as is readying Kaede after you charge!'d her earlier to come back for more. Void is of course also a cool trick get a tower off the table, especially if you can supplement this with a fearsome mystic or so.
I suppose you could also use this to take the last honor of your opponent. I would not see me firing the earth ring with this however, since what exactly do you hope to draw that is better than this card if you can play and win the duel? You would have to play it to discard that card from your opponent, but you'd better follow that up with a spies at court to choke your opponent's hand.
So basically, could be handy with any of the rings yes?
Some more than others, but yes. It's a very flexible card... as long as we're all content playing shugenjas.
I think this is awesome and I love it.
I'd consider it in Lion Honour, Spiritcallers have 2 Honour which is nice, and then trigger Air so many times in a turn that it's crazy.
