I have a doubt. It's a free event from the discard pile? The action is without cost.
I am fairly certain you would have to pay 3 resources to play it from your discard pile.
You pay 3 resources (which I find a little expensive) to place the card from your discard pile to the bottom of your deck to activate it's action.
In effect zero cost it's too powerfull, but 3.........
This kind of reminds me of Lure of Moria (a 3 cost event targeting all characters of a specific trait with a generically useful effect). But this is so much more limited...
Have to play from your discard pile, spirit resources (harder to come by than leadership resources) and the effect seems a lot less flexible than generic readying (which can roughly double any of the given stats rather than increase them by 1 while also setting up effects like A Very Good Tale and We Are Not Idle).
Now it DOES give you the possibility of cycling it with deck shuffling and fetch effects since it goes back to the bottom of your deck but...I don't know if that is enough to make this playable in anything but a 100% Noldor deck.
Erestor + Glorfindel secrecy deck with Leaf Brooch and Resourceful.
You're not wrong but that deck is starting to fill up with a lot of "must have" cards. Personally prefer to stick to 2 or 3 "must haves" for my deck's primary engine and then a more varied selection of singles and doubles to support a range of scenarios.
I don't think the card's BAD. I just feel like 3 cost is steep for what it does when compared to other similar cards in the cardpool. Though almost ANY card can be a champ in the right deck...
I just noticed that this cards boosts ALL Noldor characters, and until the round, not the phase. I'll try it!
I think this card is being vastly under rated. Yes it costs 3 but with the new Arwen Hero generating extra spirit resources it is not difficult to play this.
If you run two spirit heroes, say Arwen and Galadriel or Arwen and Cirdan or Arwen and anyone really you can use Arwen's ability to discard Lords of the Eldar and put an extra resource on Arwen. Then you could play this first turn from your discard if you really wanted. A first turn boost of +1 will, attack and def is pretty nice especially if you run all Noldor Heroes, even more so if you play two handed/two player or higher and multiple/all players use Noldor heroes.... this could be a 4 or 5 point boost in willpower quite easily and then any Noldor left back from questing for combat later in the round will have +1 attack and def. With some action advantage (lembas, LoV etc) this could be an insanely strong first turn and could get you through that initial scrabble to gain board control/advantage over the encounter deck. Plus its an action so can be used at any time, combat phase, very start of a turn during the resource phase, before quest resolution even!
In my opinion +1 to all stats for all noldor characters (allies too) until the end of the round and not end of the phase is pretty damn good even at 3 cost and even if you do put the card on the bottom of your deck afterwards. I will be testing this card out very soon in some new decks and will report on my findings on the official FFG forums.
Also it would be quite costly but imagine using Fair and Perilous on a Noldor hero after it has been boosted by Lords of the Eldar?
Glorfindel at 4 willpower, 4 attack from Lords suddenly going to 8 attack from Fair and Perilous.
I've kind of come around a little bit on this card. I still don't think it can live up to the INCREDIBLE utility of Lure of Moria (and I still think that's a fair comparison) but in a deck with a fair number of solid Noldor heroes and allies this can be solid. With New Arwen or Cirdan it becomes almost a no-brainer.
I have the feeling that this card is going to see it's value increased once the grey havens releases. I think three resources AND having to play it from the discard is too much. Going through the trouble of discarding it should have made it a two cost card. But like I said I think it's viability will increase, hopefully from the addition of added discard mechanics as well as the increased pool of Noldor characters.
if your running anything that using discarding as a cost (Eowyn, etc) then it isn't much of a hassle. I also like the idea of using Zigil Miners to help get this in the discard pile and gain resources at the same time.
Initially I agreed with you 100%. Now...I think I was a little hasty.
This card was designed with a very specific kind of deck in mind--Noldor discard decks. And in those decks you really see it shine.
Not only can its effect be powerful (especially in multi-player), but it also helps to mitigate the worst part of Noldor discard decks--having to give up cards to fuel the engine. With Lords of the Eldar, you can toss it for a free trigger on Arwen or Protector of Lorien or Watcher of the Bruinen and then still be able to benefit from it's ability later by storing it away in the discard pile (where you can access it any time and it can't be further discarded).
I wish it said you may play Lords of the Eldar from the discard pile to give it a little more flexibility but all together it's a solid card in the type of deck it's designed for.
It's a card that's easy to underestimate at first glace as it helps your deck in ways beyond the ability.
