"After Hummerhorns engages you, deal 5 damage to a single hero you control"
Does it mean that if i volountarly engage bees it won't deal damage ?
No, if you read in the rules under engagement no matter how an enemy is engaged you are considered to have engaged it and it is considered to have engaged you.

I found Dunhere attacking Hummerhorns in the staging area works, if your playing him. If not Gandalf's deal 4 damage works but seems a bit of a waste of his ability sometimes.
And Gloin (Core) with a Citadel Plate (Core) also likes these.
Keep your threat level below 40 and you'll be fine. Any ranged character with an attack of 2 or higher and Hands Upon the Bow will also take care of these pesky insects.

Also one of the nastier shadow effects in the core set, the amount of times its caught me out and taken a few allies and a hero out.

This is a hardcore creature. It goes down easily but at what cost. I laugh to myself each time I draw it, because I know somebody will die in the process.

The core set has a few ways of dealing with this card, eg

Dunhere can kill them safely while they are still in the staging area.

You could complete the adventure without ever reaching 40 threat.

Citadel plate means a hero could live through 5 damage.

Still, they are one of the nastier cards you run into early on.

Or Gandolph.  Boom!  Done.

Hands Upon the Bow and Legolas can easily take care of this thing before it can hurt you.

Or kill a hero and bring them back either with "Fortune or Fate" (Core) or Landroval (A Journey to Rhosgobel)

@4wallz: Gandalf's text says "enemy in play". Does this include enemies in the Staging Area?
